I have a w3v and I've been using it for over a year now.
I've never tried the VGA output until just recently.
Last month, I got a new monitor for my desktop so I decided to use the old 15" dell lcd panel for my w3v.
It worked without a problem for a few weeks.
But now, it blacks out for 10~30 mins and come back on.
It stays on for about 30 mins and blacks out again.
Sometimes it won't come back on for over an hour.
When it's blacked out, the monitor says "no signal."
I tried reconnecting the cable and hitting fn+f8(?) to switch display modes, but didn't help.
I upgraded the driver to 6.12 and it doesn't seem to change anything.

Did anyone have a similar problem?
Can anyone help me find a solution?

    Thank you.

    Hmm interesting problem.

    Try these possible solutions:

    1)
When your Dell LCD "blacks out" next time, try this, unplug it from the VGA port of the W3V then plug it back in. And see if it comes back.

    2)
When it "blacks out" again, go to the ATI Control Center, and click "Detect Monitor" and see if you can bring it back from there.

    3)
On your desktop, right click, properties, screen saver, click power, and see if the monitor turn off is what causes the LCD to black out, so set it to Never.

    4)
Explain how you cause it to black out, or what you are doing to cause the black out to occur, like leaving the laptop and screen idle for long periods of time, gaming and then all of a sudden it blacks out, or just regular light usage and this happens?

Hopefully this will clear up some mysteries.

I'll try the other two when I get home.
    Thank you.

    My bad.
    It doesn't say "no signal."
The screen is just pitch black.
When I go to ATI Control Center and click on "detect display," the monitor is there. It does detect it.
    It just won't show anything...
    How weird...

There is a "System Messages" option on ATI tray icon, so I took a look at it and here's what I've found...

    System
    Type: Error
    Source: ati2mtag
    Category: DAL
    Description: Display is not active

    ACEEventLog
    Type: Information
    Source: ACEEventLogSource

Description: Calling iDEM_PP.GetEventPowerModeCaps failed and result is: -1and adapter index is:1 Error Called by: ATI.ACE.CLI.Aspect.PowerPlay3 Graphics.Runtime.RT_PowerPlay3::GetEventPowerModeCaps

    Possible software(driver) issue?
