    Hello everyone...

Have had this beutiful machine for about a week now and have upgraded the HDD to a new 100GB 5400RPM Seagate (saving the original Hitachi of course!) and have run into a little problem. I was able to run the recovery discs just fine, however, when I convert the disc to NTFS, it hangs upon reboot.

Has anyone else successfully set this drive up using NTFS? I have tried with my own copy of WinXP as well and to no avail... FAT32 works fine... NTFS No Luck!

    Any Takers???

u know hwat u can do? format fat32, install windows (don't convert to ntfs) then once windows is up and running, start command prompt and type: convert c: /fs:NTFS

then windows will convert it on the next reboot.

    Hey Flaxx,

Thanks for the reply. I have read your post before and was wondering if it was something else. I have also tried what you have recommended but to no avail, as after the conversion is done... it freezes.

that is really weird!! my guess would then be a BIOS update. Are you using the latest BIOS? The other thing you could do is check to see if microsoft has anything in their knowledge base regarding this problem.

Sorry you're having that problem. I know how much of a pain and how time consuming that gets! But my 100gb Seagate drive is working fine with NTFS with my M3 anyway.

Did you try the CD that Seagate provided [assuming you bought a retail drive and it came with one]?

Here it is if you need it [DiscWizard Starter
    Edition]: http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html

    Hey Likwid,

I did try those utils: Seatools as well as DiscWizard, and both just freeze after the initial check of the drive is done on the seagate banner screen (if you try these tools you will know what I mean)... and cannot get to any of the menus. And I know the cd works as I tried it on another system just fine.

Luckily, I am able to restore the drive using the nifty external HDD case that Justin sent me (AS A GIFT) from ProPortable.

On a side note... the 60GB Hitachi is giving me probs when I try a cluster size other than 4K for NTFS.... any thoughts?
