    Hey,

There are two versions of W3V coming to Australia, the 100Gb and 80Gb versions.

Sadly the 100Gb version uses a 4200Rpm drive whilst the 80Gb uses a 5400Rpm Drive.

Does anyone know if there will be a noticable difference between the two in terms of speed.

    Thanks

HUGE...... I take it the price will be the same between the two? The difference between 4200rpm and 5400rpm is enormous...... the difference between 5400 and 7200 is huge and VERY noticable, but it's small in comparison to the difference between 4200 and 5400........

We haven't used 4200rpm drives in probably 4 years, but the tests done online still say there is a bigger difference between those two than the 5400 and 7200..... and those two are like night and day.

I wouldn't even suggest a 4200rpm drive on a system w/ integrated graphics like the M5...... but with dedicated graphics and the power of the w3v, you're going to bottleneck that system if you use anything less than a 5400rpm.

    Raging_Bull,

I have a Hitachi 7200RPM HDD in my W5A and Justin is right.

    The difference is huge.

Even with 5400rpm and 7200rpm, you can tell that there is a huge difference.

So if the space isn't the issue, get the 5400rpm. Better yet, get a 7200rpm HDD and you will like it.

They got much cheaper now. I got mine for about $270.00 2 years ago and now it's about $100.00 cheaper.

I had this HDD in 3 different notebooks and can't live without it now.
