    Hi there,

I've recently fallen in love with the Asus W3V and am 99% sure I will be placing an order this week. My question is, how well will this machine run BF2? This is the most graphically intensive game i plan on playing, and if the W3V can handle it well I will be happy as a clam. Anything in the area of 40 fps is good for me; I only play casually.

So how does the Asus W3V do with games like BF2? Thanks again!

As an aside, I would go with the Z70Va, but the lack of a global warranty and less portability (I will be on the go for the next couple years) have me leaning towards the W3V.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to play BF2 with reasonably high settings quite smoothly...40fps sounds about right with decent-high settings.
While playing though, I'd watch out for the heat... the wristrest on the W3v can get pretty hot when put under a lot of stress.
Other than that, is is a flawless machine.

    Best of luck,
    AuroraS

The W3V has a 64MB Mobility Radeon X600 - it's a mainstream card, but the best one you are going to find in a small notebook. ;)

You should be able to run BF2 at medium setting quite comftorably - just keep the shadows on low and keep the textures down - BF2 requires a 128MB card, but if you install the latest Mobility Catalyst 5.9 drivers, you should be A-OK, because they enable HyperMemory - you'll be able to share some of your system RAM with the video card - works pretty well.

Yeah, that notebook gets quite warm - you might consider buying a cooling pad.

Ye it will take doom3 on "lower" settings. It will have no problems with bf2 at medium to high settings. All depends on how you set the eye candy.

Yes bf2 runs perfectly just upgrade to 1 gig ram and your good to go. This is one of the main reasons i bought this laptop and it shines when playing bf2 so no worries bud.

with 1 gig of ram the vid card actually shows 256meg of ram - it borrows from the OS. there is no slowdowns playing bf2 at all.

W3v is one of the most compact 14.1 widescreen notebooks that can play graphic intensive game so far. but be sure to have it from 512mb to dual channel 1024mb ram to recitify lags. its most common solution to all problems.

be aware tho, that it may not run the next batch of games very smoothly. the z70va's portability isnt that bad. the only portability issue i think is its size, but these days u see tons of people toting around 15.4" lappys. but yeah no global warranty :/ anyways, u'll be happy with a purchase of the w3v if u do take it. :)

Thanks for the input guys! I definitely think i'll be upgrading the RAM. This machine looks like it will be more than enough for me (I used to use an iMac with 198 RAM to play Urban Terror, a Quake 3 mod... That ran slooooooooow, as in, I'd be happy to get 25-30 fps at the lowest settings, vertex lighting and all.)

    Stoked to get my W3V!
