I was just wondering if other W3V owners have a somewhat noisy harddrive?
Mine makes clicking noises (when it's being accessed). It's not overly loud or sharp sounding but it is definitely audible in relatively quiet conditions.
I've read other threads saying that really loud clicking noises usually mean something isn't right... got me wondering.
The machine is a few months old & its the hitachi (I think) 60 gig, 5400rpm harddrive that came with the notebook.

If it is a Hitachi, then look at Feature Tool and Power Booster from http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm.

Pretty sure it is a Hitachi.
Thanks for the links, John. I'll check them out.
Would've been nice to hear from some other W3V owners but I suspect it's not a problem...or at least I hope so. -
Thats just the HDD being accessed.. reminds me of my older 5400 Samsung drive in my desktop, I believe the noise is normal on a 5400 drive.

My W3V makes the clicking noise as well at times. At first I was sorta worried but not anymore. It usually occurs right after booting up. There was an earlier post about this I believe...probably more than one.

These noises are normal guys don't worry.
Be worried when the noise is harsher, and more audible in situations where there is a bit of noise in the room.
As long as it doesn't sound like a distinct metallic "flicking" like flicking a tong or something you're fine.
Cheers,

I figured the noises were more or less normal... but it is kinda clickety-clackety. And I had read a thread about worrisome sounding HDs on a Thinkpad & it got me starting to wonder...
At least, it doesn't make a harsh metallic sound.
Thanks for the input guys (and gals!).
