Hey guys I need your help!

I've been trying to decide which laptop to get for some time now and it's almost time for me to take the plunge  (I kind of enjoy the hunt :p )

Well right now I'm thinking about a W3V which just dropped in price again to $1299 USD.. looks so much nicer than the Z62J

I'm just not sure if I need a Core Duo (Z62J)... I'll be using it for internet, movies, music, games (WoW)... so no real intensive programs I guess, but I do multitask a bit with those things. Not sure if a Core Duo is justified..

    W3V
Pros: Sexy look, pretty powerful, dedicated video (enough for me), again sexy look.
Cons: No dual core, probably 4200rpm hard-drive, no webcam (but I have an external one)

    Z62J
Pros: Dual Core, powerful, dedicated video (probably enough), webcam, WXGA+ resolution (not sure if neccessary)
    Cons: relatively ugly,

I'm being given a budget of $1500 CDN and don't really want to go over that too much.

I think it really boils down to, do I really need dual core?? (i can replace the 5400rpm h/d if needed)

Thanks guys for your help!!! :D

PS: Anyone know a place in OREGON where I can buy an ASUS W3V? (no tax!)

zomg, Im in that situation too!!! last year I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted the W3v..but didn't have the 1899 for it. and now its 1299! assuming hte Z62J will be $100 more than the Z62F..then yes it'll be nearly the same price!

the Go 7300 should be as good as the x600 64mb in the w3v.. but you also get a webcam, and exhaust vent on the left side instead of right (some external mouse users will bring up this issue). but still.. the W3V is just soo good looking!

in my opinion is it worth paying a little more for newer technology at the sacrifice of looks and design.

    I vote, Z62J for technology!

I suggest you re-read all W3V reviews, and wait for a review of the Z62J to appear, well i think there's one?

    Thanks,

I agree. Take a bullet for the team man.

Get the newer tech Z62j who knows the looks might grow on ya.

wow surprised you and pharoah said that but very welcome opinions! for me personally it's hard to let go of that feeling of seeing that notebook you reallly really wanted but couldn't get due to price... to be finally affordable.. but then a similar equivelent with newer technology (but less attractive) makes it all so frustrating. I'm trying to keep it under 1399 so i can have more funds for a new LCD screen too :D

Perhaps if you contact Asus they can tell you of a local retailer in OR.

i saw my mates w3v again this weekend... i dont know, i wouldnt like to be in your shoes but that W3v sure looks awesome!

throw ur money where you need it. If you need core duo performance, z62j. If you want to wow your friends, W3v.

I guess it also depends on how long you are planning to keep it too.

thanks guys for your replies... I'm glad to see SOMEONE is in the same position as me :D

Well right now I'll probably have to go to Oregon to get the W3V because the prices for it in Canada are pretty high in comparison... NCIX is $2099 CDN

anyways, I'm wondering, if I go down to oregon from vancouver canada, and I bring it over (put programs/documents on it to make it look like it's used), I'll probably mail the documents over and probably throw away the box... but do you guys know if I'll need the box??

I'm gonna contact asus and find out what stores in oregon sell laptops... keep up the opinions !!

not to confuse you..but have you considered the S96J? for the same price range it offers more graphical performance at teh cost of size and weight. seems to have a decent battery life too!

nope haven't considered it. I'm set on getting a light 14", graphics performance isn't of the utmost importance, I just don't want integrated. battery life might matter later on, but for now it's not a big issue.
