When I insert my compact flash card to the PCMCIA slot with the adapter to fit it the computer slows down - on checking control panel --> system-->hardware --> device manager I see a yellow exclamation mark opposite the IR device and on checking the properities for it there is a system fresource conflict and I cannot put this right -- what's up please and how to overcome it . The SD card / Memory stick slot is OK and computer is otherwise OK - I use Win XP Pro SP 2

I've never heard of such a problem before...

Maybe you should try to work around it by...disabling IR or your media card reader and then inserting the compact flash card again.

You could try to uninstall the IR device in the device manager, which may solve the problem. It seems that the PCMCIA card is taking the wrong assignment, so you may have to reassign the IRQ, which I believe is done in the BIOS.

Problem now solved - eventually I pressed f9 during startup nad reset the W3V to factory defaults after the compact flash card and Memory stick were removed - this did the trick and now the compact flash card connected through a PCMCIA card adaptor plug in device is recognised as a storage device and there are no conflicts at all -

Previously I had did something similar but restored from the two ASUS restore cds and replaced windows and drivers none of which made any difference to the problem. I had also been asked by ASUS UK to return the W3V for service but didn't need to,

Nice to know you resolved the problem, ARC.

Software can really be a head scratcher sometimes...
