Hi all. Any recommendations for a surge protector for my W3V? Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the Back-UPS series by APC. That's what I run my custom desktop, monitor, and various peripherals off of. I'm on my 3rd one (over 10+ years) and they've never failed me. Batteries do die after a while, though.

Well...... for a surge protector... Belkin... APC... Monster makes an awesome unit. As far as a UPS back up..... Belkin makes a great unit and like dragonesse... I've been using them for many years.... I've got one that I've been using for 7 years and it still has 75% of it's battery left.... very good investment.

They have excellent longevity so long as you don't run more componants off of it than it's intended for. That's how I killed my old one in under two years...

..... well it's used when power goes out and it recalibrates itself every month or two.... if your power goes out a lot..... you should look into your electricity more than just a power backup...... unless you're living in the deep woods of some backwards place (where no one would probably have a computer anyway)..... electricity should be pretty stable.

Thanks for the advice. I am really looking for a portable surge protector like the one John R. posted. Any other suggestions? Any available in the States?

    I have this:
    http://apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=173

Good brand, portable, has a strap that attaches over the Asus charging pack (the surge protector itself is almost the exact same width and length as it), and has inputs for ethernet/phone line (apparently you can get surges from these sources too). I don't know if I really needed it, but it certainly doesn't hurt considering how much a laptop cost; and i also keep my laptop on almost 24 hours everyday. Btw, you want the 3 prong one, which I think is the c6. This seems to be what your looking for.

For my old desktop, I had an APC UPS thing. It was pretty big and bulky, but had alot more outlets obviously. It also came w/ a USB input and software so you could monitor different aspects, such as how sensitive you wanted the UPS to be in relation to wattage from your electrical source, and what kind of problems arose, such as outtages, surges, etc. This is a good option for your home, but obviously not for travelling.

    Hope this helped.

Guess where I live? And our electricity is definately wierd... my new APC UPS was fine at school, but I bring it home for breaks and it isn't the same... it's got the same oddities as my old one did.

NO WAY? I'm sorry, I didn't mean that as an insult... but in terms of your computer and so forth... you really should worry and you really should have a good setup because brown outs really can hurt your equiptment..... so keep it protected!

Haha, no offense taken. I make fun of where I live all the time (its not my choice to be here). I am VERY protective of my equipment, which is why I run it on a UPS which could easily handle about twice the equipment I keep on it.
