I'm looking to buy a new laptop and my first choice, due to design, size ,and performance is the W3V. I will be using it mostly for work (internet, spreadsheets, Word, email) but I also want to play games. I won't be playing games a lot but some of the ones I want to play, like BF 2, have high graphic requirements.

How good is the x600 w/64 mb as a game card? I know that the z71v has a better game card but not having used either I don't know what that translates to in real life. Will I be able to play today's games in with the W3V or are some of them offlimits?

I realize the 71v is bigger and heavier and that's why I prefer the W3V. On the other hand I want this laptop to last me several years and I don't want an underpowered video card, which is the one thing I can't upgrade.

On a related note how legible is the 71v for text. It seems to me that the screen resolution is so high that most text may be too small. Is that the case? How about websites?

    Thanks in advance.

The res for the z71v is fine, I saw it in stores and it should be fine, I wasn't used to it, since I nornally use a lower resolution, but if you move from one to another, it may take a while to get used to.

The x600 should handle everything you throw at it, that is if you don't expect high detail + the other goodies.

    Justin,

What is your (or your client's) experience with the W3V and modern games?

There are programs to make your text larger on a high res screen..... great idea if you want the high resolution but your eyes aren't good enough to see smaller text.

My experience includes doom3, far cry, call of duty, ms flight sim...... the 64mb x600 can certainly handle those... I think far cry might not be at the top settings, but the thing is, on a 14" screen...... you can't tell the difference between like the medium and top settings....... if I was on a 15.4" you might see more of a difference but it's still great..... the top settings are really meant (and I know this from experience... a desktop w/ like a WUGA 23" widescreen (which I'm lucky enough to own) and I run games and 3d rendering programs on there w/ a 256mb x800 card...... but I wouldn't trade my W3 for the world....

Our customers, at least the ones who keep in touch with me seem to be having the same amount of fun with theirs as I do...... I think the new omega drivers based on the cat 5.6 drivers are going to open up this card even more and make it even nicer for gaming.

Without a doubt though, the 128mb 6600 is still a better graphics card...... it's just not the only reason to out a laptop.

    Thanks,
    Justin
