dollar for dollar, you're going to get what you're paying for. Acer never had their name associated with quality, while Asus does. Go spend an hour with both of them if you could.

Acer specs look awesome and for the price... but my friend who works for a quality testing company calls the Acer travelmate line the "troublemaker" line.

Acer has made some progress on their lines but the design is still ugly in my opinion. Quality is questionable still. I would go Asus all the way.

i had to make the decision as you, and for me the price gap was even bigger cause Acer has a very big local presence where i am. it was like, a good USD$300 or $400

as someone who's actually handled both laptops i can agree with everyone who says that asus' build quality is MUCH MUCH better than that of the acer. acer feels plasticky and flimsy, while the asus feels very solid and well built. besides, its lighter to boot!

Acer's aren't bad, however most are made from plastic, and there is a slight flex.

But thats only from the TM45xx and the AS1681 which I tried out.
