    Hi all.

I was checking drivers etc on my W3V and realized that there is an update on the Intel site for my Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network adapter. I am using driver 9.0.1.9; update is 10.1.1. I couldn't find an update on the ASUS web page.

Is it okay to use the Intel driver update?

I know that if I use other updates not from ASUS i.e. touchpad that it doesn't fully function.

    Thanks.

No all your FN function keys will stop working. the ver 10 intel drivers are not compatable with asus Hcontrol driver.

I figured as much. Thanks for the info. It would be nice if ASUS updated drivers a little bit more often.

It is a shame i mean those drivers have been around for a while. Asus really is good at making laptops but lacks in other areas.

Hey guys... I wish I could update my wireless drivers too!! I'm having major issues with my W3V and the wireless internet..

When I websurf normal website and email, my internet works just fine... but when I try to phone someone by Voice chat I get dropped from my network after a minute or two then I get reconnected but my Voice connection is lost and I have to start over again (this is using Skype and MSN).

I've tried so many things... updating the intel PROset program.. changing Skype settings etc... but it still happens.. This also happens with online gaming.

At my house it works okay with my Linksys WRT54G router and cable connection... but with my at the place i'm currently living, with my Telus DSL and a GigaFast Wireless-G (WF719-CAPR) 802.11b/g router, it has this problem.

    Any ideas>??

I guess I should be posting this in the Wireless Networking forum.. but I trust ASUS guys FIRST! :D Thanks!

tuyuit...so you are saying that you have a W3V and used the W3J drivers to update your IntelPRO wireless drivers?

From the Gizmo newsletter ( http://www.techsupportalert.com/):

2.4 How to Keep Connected to the Internet

Subscriber Chris Mar writes "Gizmo, I'm among a huge number of disappointed Internet users who keep losing internet connectivity. It seems that this may be a function of the ISP as well as other unnecessarily complex or redundant security measures in the Administrative Services. Normally to resolve this I have to use the Network Connection Repair tool to re- establish the seemingly broken link but recently I ran across an excellent app called Connection Keeper by Greg Wittmeyer, CEO of Gammadyne Corporation [1]. It is a free download and has solved my connection problems. What a joy; no more endless cycles with the Repair tool or getting stuck after I get up to stretch my legs to come back to find the little Network Connection icons lifelessly staring into blank space." Thanks for that, Chris. You are quite right; internet disconnection problems are very common. However the causes are many and range from simple ISP based inactivity timeouts and line noise problems right through to complex TCP stack issues. Using Connection Keeper is an excellent first line of attack. It keeps connections alive by regularly communicating with your ISP even during periods of sustained inactivity. It won't solve all disconnection problems but many users will find it provides a simple free solution. Freeware, all Windows versions, 2.56MB.

    Good luck!

Hey thanks I "kind of" solved the voice chat problem by going to Wireless network properties >> Configure >> Advanced >> Power Management >> Uncheck default and put it to Highest.

HOWEVER, earlier today I went to ASUS update webpage and I looked at the W3V updates and for some reason it had updates to version 10.? of Intel PROset Wireless drivers, and a bunch of other things...

so, being the gullible guy that I am  , I downloaded them (CPU Hotfix, modem update, audio update, console2.0, wlan drivers) and installed them and so I had the problem where HCONTROL doesn't work.

So I ROLLEDBACK the WLAN Intel Proset drivers to 9.? and restarted my computer, but still, HCONTROL encounters and error. I tried uninstalling intel proset completely and it still doesn't work. :(

The internet works, but all my Function buttons and side buttons don't work!

I'm not sure what else I have to do to fix this! I tried multiple times to download the old version of WLAN intelProset drivers (9.1.4) but it never finishes, it says unable to read the rest of the file from the site!!

I'm not sure what or HOW to uninstall some of the other things I installed... here is a list of what the filenames were:

    WLAN_2915ABG_XP_2K_050914.zip
    W_Console_XP_060426.zip
    LAN_XP_060426.ZIP
    AUDIO_XP_060426.zip
    Hotfix_MP_XP_060426.zip
    InfUpdate_XP_060426.zip
    MODEM_DF_XP_060426.zip

Any help would be much appreciated!!
