Anybody seen a model similar to the W3V (same body, similar specs) with AMD64 instead of the pentium M. I doubt it exists but thought I'd check the forum just in case. I really like the 14" size and design of the W3V vs say the Z70 line. Maybe I'm just being to picky. Thanks for any advice.
And damn this rebate, I was going to wait until fall but it has me thinking...

well from the USA asus site, I see this

    ASUS A6U

Our first AMD Turion platform notebook. This efficient power consuming notebook has a 15.4" screen that's great for watching movies. Also it has built in wireless and a digital camera.

asus is doing a tour w/ AMD...site here

The only really portable AMD64 notebook in existance at this time is, AFAIK, the MSI S270.

If AMD can get SIS/VIA/ATI/nVidia to provide good chipsets that can keep the Turion power consuption in check when idle other manufacturers may follow suit. A little competition is always a good thing.

I don't think one exists.. there's not too many 14" wxga laptops with a GPU in the first place too! The only ones I can think of are available in the US is the Asus W3V, the Compal EFL30, and elsewhere, a BenQ joybook and LG LW40. All of which are P-M machines.

It seems to be one of those notebooks that is probably still another year or so away, maybe when manufacturers start gearing up for longhorn. I was thinking it would be nice to have the ability to take advantage of longhorn when it is released, but by that time and the time it takes other programs to catch up in the 64bit arena it will probably be time for a new notebook anyhow.

The processor itself is supposedly fine. They started to get control over the 'full tilt' power consumption with the Mobile Sempron (which is reasonably competitive with the C-M on all fronts) and the MT-series Turion improves further on this. The real upside of the Turion is, however, supposed to be support for the advanced 'deeper sleep' states, but current motherboard/chipset/bios implementations seems to be a bit lacking in that regard.
