    Hi,
I have had my Asus W3V for the past year now, and I am looking to format it as it's time for some spring cleaning. I'm having some trouble doing this however. I'm not sure how to use the recovery disk Asus provided with my computer. I tried inserting it before restarting and was unable to access any of the files on the CD. I also tried rebooting from the CD, but the option was unavailable to me after pressing F8 during reboot.

I have looked around the internet and found it very difficult to get any information to help me. I would appreciate if anyone out there has any suggestions or links to a guide I could use. It's unfortunate that Asus doesn't have a Canadian office, making the call to tech support much more difficult.

    Thank you for your help.

Well if you left the partitions the way you got the pc a year ago. All you have to do is hit F9 on boot without any cds or anything and it will ask if you want to run recovery you say yes. Your actual recovery image is on the hard drive. it will only ask for a cd when it needs the drivers and you use the asus driver cd. dont forget to back your data up it will format your hard drive on recovery.

    Really? Thanks.

Will it format both partitions? I only want one (the main one, C) formatted.

    Hi guys,
Sorry to bring back an old thread but I was just wondering I have an Asus W3J and I tried the F9 method to initiate the recovery partition but it's not working? Is there another way?

Hi, if the HDD is wiped then you can still use the DVD/CD to recover with no problems.

If your recovery DVD is Vista, then you can go back to Vista. If it's XP, you can just go back to XP. :)

Just insert the DVD/CD, reboot, press ESC at ASUS splashscreen, and select DVD drive from the ensuing popup menu. Then select "recover to 1st partition only".

If you want a clean install, do not insert the drivers CD when you are asked to, instead force a reboot & install drivers manually.

Force a reboot(? press the power button?) immediately when I am asked to insert the drivers CD? Do I have to wait?

You do not need to wait. As soon as it asks for the driver CD, you can reboot.

Or to be on the safe side, you can wait for 15 mins, there could be a timeout on the thing and it'll reboot by itself. But I;m not sure about the timeout.
