I did an upgrade (not clean install) to Vista RTM on my W3j. It's working ok, mostly, but I think the some of the minor problems I am having are due to the USB drivers not working right (PDA won't connect/sync, USB stick won't be recognized, etc...).

Is anyone running Vista on a W3j, and if so, can you point me to the drivers you're using? Any word on when Asus will have Vista driver's up, given that it's being released to retail in a few weeks?

    bump.

I have no clue...that's odd, I have never heard of having to install USB drivers since Windows 98.

i've had no problems with any of my usb devices and vista (business edition). my flash drive (OCZ Rally2 2GB) was detected and functions perfectly. I did, however, perform a clean install to a new partition

I wonder why there are several of us using W3J and have not been able to even install Vista while some are able to...

Exactly.. Is there a certain BIOS version already released for the W3J that supports Vista?

What is the difference between BIOS versions on the W3Js that can install Vista and those that cannot?

well im using the 210 bios, x64 version of vista business edition, and have the w3jp. the only problems i've encountered with vista are: no sound (neither through head phones nor speakers), and Fn+F2 controls both wireless and bluetooth

I am using the Yonah 1.83Ghz so I won't be able to install the x64 version. Also using the 210 bios. I wonder if Asus knows about this problem....

Over the weekend I plugged in my wireless Logitech mouse and that worked fine over USB, but it still doesn't recognize my USB Stick (which I actually got from MS, oddly enough...) or my PDA cradle. Video is fine w/ the latest ATI Mobility drivers for Vista, and sound works.

I did break BT after trying the Widcomm drivers I found in another thread...couldn't roll back to the original drivers, so now BT doesn't work, but I figured I'd just wait for the 'official' drivers before taking another stab at fixing that.

The Widcomm drivers, in my experience, were not compatible with the W3J's bluetooth card. If you want to fix it (it's really not that hard), uninstall any bluetooth utility/driver currently on your system and download or install with the included CD the Toshiba bluetooth stack.

Thanks for the tip. If I remember correctly (don't have the W3j w/ me at the moment), there is currently no BT device showing up in Device Manager, so I guess I just need to re-install the original driver. Now, where'd I leave that disk... ;)

If it's not showing up with a "!", it's likely that some driver is already installed. Once you get rid of everything and restart your computer, the unknown device will appear on the list and you'll be ready to install the new stack. You may be able to do it without removing the old drivers but I'd suggest not. If you can't find the disk, the link from earlier has the software too.
