    Hi there,

I have a W3N, and my LCD backlight now does not turn on. Just the backlight, because I can see a faint image on the LCD.
When I press the "lcd " button, I can see the backlight flikering, and I hear a small "click" on the bottom right side of the LCD screen (near the power button).
So, it does not seem to me that the problem is on the cables, because the image is there and the light flickers every time I turn on the LCD backlight with the keyboard button.
So, does anyone know what the problem can it be? What is located in that area? Is it the inverter? How can I fix this?

    Thanks.

Hi, I suspect it is the inverter. Or perhaps the cable that goes to the inverter from the mainboard.

Both can be had for many laptops for around 20USD from the ASUS eStore. Google for it, and then search for the model number (W3) and check the list for the inverter and cable. Unfortunately you are in Portugal and the eStore doesn't ship there. You might try to contact your local ASUS service center and check whether they are able to sell the parts to you. Another option is an ASUS reseller which might be able to order the parts from ASUS (but usually for a larger price).

I cannot of course be sure about this, but it's worth a try (and it's a cheap try, too)

Do you have any idea how to reach the inverter?
I can't find out how to take the LCD cover.

I am building a LCD Panel disassembly guide which will be able to remove and replace the Inverter.

the invert shound be easy to acess most like you screen on laptop has screws all around under black covers remove then unscrew and carefull pull apart

the invert will be under the lcd panel when you get exposed

i seen where the backlight cause the intervert cause the inverted to buzz

be very carefull if you play with invert it extermly high voltage and will burn you flesh make sure laptop is off when you play with if don,nt know what you do

you can take back light plug into invert when on mind you have be very carefull wound need space back light or diffent laptop to see if invert will power other laptop back light

Due to the design of the W3 series, the removal of the Inverter and the Inverter Cable would be more difficult compared to a regular laptop. The hinge design would likely be scratched or damage the top case when trying to remove the LCD bezel from the LCD cover.

Just want to let you know that a new inverter fixed my laptop screen.
I ordered it through a friend that is studying in the USA.
It's nice to have my laptop back on business.

    Thanks.
