OK,
I said I wasn't going to post this till tonight, but most of the mailing list already have their orders in..... plus I'm getting sick of everyone asking to see the pictures seperately...... So here you go..
Please, do my a favor.. Keep this thread for only 1 thing... If you placed a pre-order, you can leave a little one liner about it so everyone knows..... otherwise, lets please keep the big W3 thread going..... You can tell whoever you want about this link, but for now it will NOT be accessible through the main site... only via a direct link... so post it in another forum if you want.. but don't just tell a friend to go to our site to look for it. I want to give the forum members first chance to get a unit.. not just random people visiting our site.

Update -
1. As of this morning.... the W3v's will have a 1.86ghz (750) cpu and not the 1.73ghz (740). Price will not go up, everyone with their order in just got a bigger smile on their face.
2. Also, it is confirmed we are limited to exactly 100 units. and it will be another 3 weeks before the 2nd shipment arrives.
3. My date of 3 weeks or more is probably off. All I am going to say is it's more in the direction that would put a smile on your face.
Thanks,
Justin

I was wondering what you were saying at first.. then I gotcha..... basically.... I think all of them were people on the mailing list..... I don't  we've gotten orders coming in from your posts or anyone else posts around just yet..... remember... I've only had the page up for about 36 hours...... only posted it here in the forum about 24 hours ago.... and it's the weekend. I expect somewhere in the area of 45-50 more orders this coming week... leaving about 25 units left in the allocation for the remaining week and half, two weeks or so before they come in.... Unfortunately, it's going to take a little while to get the news around, so some of the people who just find out about it next week may be out of luck... who knows...

I found this picture online and thought for some of you guys wondering how big the W3 is going to be in your hands..... it might be good to get a feel for it. I know that the pictures on our site, without any frame of reference make the notebook look chunky... thats only because it's so darn small.
Check out this picture and reference that to the pictures on our pre-order pages... then wipe the drool accordingly. []

My little heart is going pitter-patter right now. How on earth do I decide between this beautiful thing and the V6V?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
I can tell you right now that only way to decide is screen size.. other than that, they are two very similiar units..
-The W3 has s-video out - which is nice for some
-The W3 has the option for a 2nd optical bay battery - awesome on many accounts.
-The W3 has a standard size optical drive - which is why it has the 8x dual layer.....
It's smaller... a 14" widescreen is a lot smaller than a 15" regular ratio screen... just look at my diagram below.. a 14" widescreen is about the same width as a 15" regular ratio..... so you have the same width... but you lose about 2 inches of height on the screen... just look at our site and compare the dimensions of the unit and you'll see what I'm talking about... it depends on the size screen you'll really need.:
http://www.proportable.com/images/screensizeratio.jpg
If you have a desktop at home..... and are looking for something with a smaller screen.. but all the power, go with the W3.... if you need that power... but a bigger screen... but still want the lower weight and slimness.... V6 all the way.
Thanks,
Justin

Just made a pre-order this evening, with the 1024 MB memory upgrade. Hopefully the first shipments come because I'm really itching to see it. Something inside me makes me all tingly inside knowing I'll be one of the first in America to have one. [
]
I also read Justin's thread about the W3 barebone and I'm so glad I hopped on this. No aluminum, no color shine screen, and integrated video is just too watered down.
Thanks for doing great business!

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask, but what is the "travelers drawer" that is mentioned in the specs?
Jean -
PROPortable Company Representative
That is a blank drawer that fits in the optical bay slot...... it's to lower weight.. if the next question is what is the weight with the drive in, you're looking at what... 1/4 pound more.. so 4.75 with the dvd burner in.....
I also meant to say that it's for traveling.... you can put your money.. credit cards... passport in there. It's honestly really handy... makes that trip around the world.. or to the local coffee shop that much easier... you're going to have to hold on to that laptop for all it's worth..... this way you're holding on to your wallet at the same time. Most people tell me that throw a credit card or a couple bucks in there on the way to lunch...... guys usually carry their wallets anyway.... but for woman, a sub 5 pound notebook....... or a 20 pound purse? They seem to love it.
Thanks,
Justin

what scares me is that say you put a credit card in there... wouldn't it technically be possible for the card to slip OUT of the traveler's drawer? (i.e when you flip the notebook upside down, for instance)
But anyway... approx. how many units do you have left Justin?
ASUS M6800Ne, P-M 1.5 Dothan, 512MB Ram, Toshiba Combo drive, Samsung Spinpoint M 40G HDD with 8M cache, Mobility Radeon 9700 -
PROPortable Company Representative
about 2/3 left at least.
No.... actually, no, it can't go anywhere when it's in the unit..... like it can't fall into the computer if thats what you're worried about.. and it certainly can't fall out. When you take out the cd drive to your M6..... you'll notice a composite piece which would be under the keyboard, but flush with the top of the top on the inside.... It's cool..... having the travelers drawer... optical drive... 2nd battery..... 2nd hard drive kit .... those are some serious options for such a small computer.
Thanks,
Justin

So the traveler's drawer, on the W3V, it will have the 8x dual layer correct?
[l]ikwid.[f]uzion -
The ASUS W3V will come standard with a 8x Dual Layer DVD Burner. If you want to save weight and dont need to use the DVD burner, you can take it out and put in the traveller's drawer, which is just an empty plastic mould to fill the modular bay.

UPDATE:
We set up a deal with Asus and we came up with an awesome pre-order gift. They are going to help us with the cost of WL-330g Traveling Wireless Access Points so that we can offer those instead of the $20 gift card..... They area $69 value and they are useful whether you have a wifi router or not.
If you do - you can use it when traveling, or just visiting someplace that has ethernet, but no wifi.
If you don't - but you have a hard wired router, you can hook this up permanently and have wifi access.
This is a big deal. It will be sent with the first 100 advanced orders (which is also the amount of that first allocation). 2nd shipment won't be til early May, so not only do you get one of the first units period, you get a good gift.

Have you seen the review of the w3n in this forum?
the screen of this lappy is very crappy, so be careful.
"Display:
Well, it is good but Sony's X-black2 (the one in the FS series) is light-years better that this. This screen is like a mirror, when I'm lit (for example, when I have a window on my side). Outdoors, I can't see nothing besides myself. X-Black's has more light and less reflection. I can tell you that with a X-Black side-by-side with this, this screen seems like it is off. Screen response is fast althought. Vertical angle is VERY BAD!
It is a good screen, but I'm a bit disapointed because of the reflection and vertical angle."

Thats great news, now get off this thread please. This is for information on the pre-order. There is another thread about the unit. People can make up their own minds and I don't appreciate being called a liar. No one has posted pictures showing the difference. Remember, first impressions are important and your first two posts are ridiculous. Is it me, or are all of these people who are suddenly anti-asus all of a sudden starting to make their first posts in the forum?

That doesn't make sense; Salesmen can't lie to knowledgable folk... because if they do, then they'll get hell for it when the customer finds out. Then, bad publicity starts and no one wants to buy from that company.
Justin is no more or less of a liar than the rest of us... and he never once tried to persuade anyone to buy a W3v. He's simply letting everyone know that PROportable has them in stock(or soon will) IF they want one.

And i dont sell laptops like you, that why I DONT LIE TO PEOPLE ME.
-
Hahahaha! Anti-escrow. Classic.
It's not like Justin is selling just one model of computer and has to sell that one or he'll die. If somebody is concerned about the W3V screen, he can offer them a number of other models that might meet their needs. He has no reason to lie about one model. It really disgusts me that people automatically assume that just because he's a salesman, he's trying to cheat us all and trick us. Anyone who has ever worked with Justin on a sale knows that he is an honest businessman. PROPortable's review at ResellerRatings.com speaks for itself.
If people are truly concerned about how good the W3V screen is going to be, they can hold off on their pre-order and wait until Justin has them in his hands and can ask him how the screen actually is. He will be honest. ASUS has such good models that for most of us, our back up choice is still an ASUS. He's not a used car salesman, he's a computer salesman, and his business depends on people being happy with the brand they choose, so why on earth would he lie? -
PROPortable Company Representative
In the past couple weeks a lot of people from this forum have called me and can attest to the fact that I'm anything but a good salesman (thats not my job, number one)..... but 9 times out of 10, I "sell" a customer on a lesser system than they think they need because they really don't know what they need. This is the worst sales technique in history.
I don't have a quota to push, I don't have a family to feed, I'm not living sale to sale.... If someone is dealing with me and I get the feeling they are out to screw me (that happens) or they are getting a computer for the wrong reasons (when their computer might just have a virus on it that can be removed), I end the conversation right there....... The customer might always be right, but like I say, they have to know what they are talking about and I have to want to accept their sale. We don't do business with someone who's first comment is, "if I drop my computer in water, that's covered by warranty right?"..... I'm happy to send business over to Dell.
So car salesman.... ok. I present the facts and the oppurtunity purchase something, thats the only thing I'm guilty of.... Oh, that and putting in at least a solid hour and half of my day replying to posts on here.... No one answered my question about a 10-step program that can help me slowly get off of this place, did they?
Thanks,
Justin

Justin,
I just went back to the W3V Advanced Order page and I noticed that the RAM is now "seperate." For those (like me) who pre-ordered before the change, do we have to do anything? Also, I noticed that the extra 512 MB Corsair has decreased from $125 to $105 after the change. Once again, for those that pre-ordered before the change, do we get the deducted $20? If not, can we cancel our previous order and re-order it again to get the deduction?
Thanks!

Just for clarification purposes, we don't have to re-order or anything right?

I have a couple things to say to everyone in this forum....... but right now I'm awaiting Asus' approval to say them. I don't want to jump down anyone's throats, but I have three very important things everyone should know. Legally though, I want Asus to approve it before I say anything that would have an effect on any other business. That's not my style, but someone is shooting you a BS line. As long as Asus approves, I will have three absolute guarantees for you that you can hold me to.... Just waiting for them to get back to me. Don't hold your breath... it might take till Monday.

Hey Justin, two questions...
1. On the W3V Pre-Order page you have an "IMPORTANT" message listed at the bottom that says you can't/won't be adding in any extra ram on this system. I thought you said that ASUS USA didn't really care too much about memory upgrades when It comes to the International Warranty on ASUS Direct models in North America? Anyways, just so It's clear...are you now encouraging us NOT to purchase any additional memory from you at the same time as our system purchase?
2. Does the "travelers Drawer" come with the W3V system package or must we purchase it separately? If It's not included, will you be carrying them? Also, in order to use the "travelers drawer" we'd have to swap out the 8x Dual Layer DVD burner correct? In other words, there's only space for one or the other, they can't both be used at the same time right?
Thanks in advance for clearing things up...I can't wait to hear your announcement!!! [8D] -

For the person who reminded me about the wireless AP that is included from PROPortable, thank you, I forgot about that bonus! That makes the price difference less big between the two pre orders out there!
For the person asking about the travellers drawer, I believe I read on this forum that it is included (Justin you may correct me) and that you do in fact swap it for the dvd. The drawer does not actually DO anything, it is just an option instead of dvd to reduce the weight if necessary. There would be no sense in being able to use it AND the dvd drive anyway.
Guess we are all waiting for the news on Monday...

What's up with that RAM discalimer Proportable? Has ASUS lost their freakin mind? I assume we will know what's going on on Monday, but my preorder has additonal RAM like I'm sure alot of others does. This ASUS global warranty could be becoming less of a feature and more of a liability in my mind.
