Just so you know, Asus finally got us the 2nd Hard Drive Kits for the W3v. A handful are left in stock after all of the backorders shipped... but they are still available.

In case anyone has missed it the following is now available for the W3v:

    8 cell extra main battery
    6 cell optical bay battery
    2nd hard drive kit

    Thanks,
    Justin

What about it? If you're asking for a battery or hard drive for your optical bay..... that system wasnt' designed with a modular bay system like the W3....... only the W3(Z63)/M7(Z71)/M6(Z70)/M3 (Z61)/M2/M1 series use the modualar bay.

    Thanks,

Are modular devices hotswappable? For example, if I was running a W3V on battery power with two batteries installed, could I remove the modular battery while the laptop is turned on and replace it with the DVD-drive (or a second hard drive), and have that device accessible from within Windows without a reboot?

Yes, they are hot swappable...... The thing is, sometime's their not and you've got to play around with it.

I think when you use the two batteries the system doesn't just use one battery up and then the other. I'm pretty sure it drains both equally, which would be good for hot swapping because the main battery would normally drain first. Either way, as long as the main battery doesn't drain then then stary working on the 2nd battery.... you'd be fine. You can also do this with 2nd hard drive kits..... but some people have had problems...... but it is hot swappable.

    Thanks,
    Justin
