    Hey,

I have had a w3v for about 2 months now.

Sometimes when i leave it running unattended, (can be as little as 10 minutes), i come back and the thing has completely frozen.

This is starting to really piss me off.

Apart from this it is a perfect notebook.

What could be the cause of this?

    Thanks Alot.

My suspicion would fall on the power management. Try changing the power schemes to delay or disable (a) turning off of monitor (b) turning off of hard disk (c) entry into standby and (d) hibernation.

I have had problems with standby on other computers, which can be caused by drivers not behaving properly.

    hey,

    Thanks for the reply.

The standby time is currently 30 minutes for both A/C and battery.

Are you saying that if i reduce these, it will eliminate the problem?

    Thanks

is your standby mode, i am pretty sure. I have that problem as well, but i disabled the standby mode and everythign is ok now. just set the LCD turn off to 5min or something.

also, heibernate is also messed up, it won't hibernate back in window. but i just disable it along the way, cos it only takes 41 seconds to boot anyway, is not that long.

The problem is occuring more and more frequently.

It has happened 4 or 5 times already just today.

I can be just working on the laptop and all of a sudden it will just totally freeze!!!!

Does anybody have any idea what this can be caused by??

    Thanks.

it can be your OS... what windows did you installed?
mine run fine leaving it downloading stuff for 24 hours.

i created a customized windows setup CD with all the possible hotfix from microsoft.
    go here:
    http://unattended.msfn.org/index.htm

there is also a link that let you download a post sp2 update package and you can slipstream them into the window cd... but i couldnt find the URL anymore. anyhow, try to make fresh install with ALL the hotfix, and make sure you are running at least xp sp2. cos anything before that seems buggy. :p

also get the new drivers from ASUS, and there's also a new display driver from Intel. you need to search for "Mobile Express Chipset Family" then grab their latest driver.
