Display properties > settings > advance > direct3d tab or open gl
under custom setting you'll see a maximum resolution. for me, its maximum resolution is set at 1024x768 and not 1280x768. Thus games such as half life (includes counterstrike1.6/TFC) which uses its defaults open gl/direct3d settings... thus not being able to make 1280x768.. i've read up on widescreengamingforums.com... but to no avail... please advice.. i've even tried updating the VGA driver via asus website.

Thanks for your reply, mmm somehow i unknownlingly i managed to have it the same as yours 1600x1200 now... weird.. previously was 1024x768. But still i'm unable to play half life games in widescreen mode ... sad..

Mine is like that too. I think it's because the X600 does not support the the widescreen resolutions that Valve uses. My GF4 Ti4600 on my PC can enable widescreen mode even though I don't have a widescreen monitor.

Well, actually Half life ONE (up-to-date-via-steam) does support wide screen... sad for me as i dont get to choose wide screen mode.. anyway i've emailed steam about this issue ... hope they'll reply with a fix for Half life one.
