On occasion, I manage to hit the pc cart eject button and out pops the pc card socket protector. To this point I have been able to reinsert the protector and the eject button, a niggling process to be sure. The last time this happened the eject button will not remain in the "in" position. Push the button in and the protector pops out; push the protector in and the button pops out. I would assume that the "spring loaded toggle button" (see page 46 of the manual) isn't properly "catching" in the "in" position. Or am I just such an idiot that I am not manipulating something properly.
I really don't want to leave the eject button in the "out" position as it would then become an accident waiting to happen.
Help would be appreciated!!

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Does the button pop back out when you push it in and pop the protector out? It does sound like the spring catch may not be working, since on my Z63 it catches as I push it in to pop the protector out. Although, I noticed that if I don't manage to push the button "all" the way in (i.e. catch my finger on the protector as it comes out), the spring doesn't catch and then the button pops back out on me with the protector too - which sounds like what is happening for you.
If the button isn't catching after being pressed all the way in, perhaps try contacting your reseller for help? -
Clearskies,
Thanks for the promptness. Yes that indeed sounds like the same deal... Push the button in and it will not catch, then the eject button just teeter-totters with the protector. I push the button in, protector comes out, push the protector in and the button is pushed back against my finger.
Since it worked ok till yesterday, I was hoping that a minor tweak with a paper clip or small screwdriver would put things back in order.
Thanks again!!

Hm... I'm not quite sure what u mean, but if you're asking how to keep the eject button and the protector in, then this is what u should do:
1.press the eject button, take the protector out,
2.press the eject button again, untill you hear 'click' sound, and it's in
3.insert the protector
... Is this what you're asking? -

The outlined procedure is ok but....
When I press the eject button in, there is no click! It does not latch properly and stay in the "in" position. Is there some way to correct this without sending it back for repair??
Thanks for the attention.....

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I can't think of an easy way to get this back - this sounds something might have happened with the spring internally (position, other pieces holding it in place). Kind of seems similar to what happens with a ballpoint pen when the something happens to the spring under the button if it gets locked in one position - the pen doesn't come out/stays stuck in..... shy of taking the notebook bottom apart (and I'm not sure that this button would be easy to get to without a lot more disassembly) you may be left with having a repair tech need to do it.
Of course, you could just go ahead and snap it off yourself to get it over with if it really bothers you.
just kidding - I can appreciate how annoying this has to be. -
Gee hee
oldras Yeah sorry I didn't get it the first time..

ClearSkies, Tjun
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I had considered getting a set of wire cutters and eliminating the problem but thought twice about that. It is an irritation but maybe I could just tell people that it isn't a bug, it is a feature..... Naaah
I did try to contact ASUS tech support but have not heard back from them yet. Anyone have experience with them. I am hoping for a short turnaround time as I use the laptop in tutoring students at a local college. I can't get along without Excel!!
Again thanks for the info!!
