I posted a week ago about the wireless lan problem with my W3V, and I'm actually working on it still [ :(!]

Here are the facts and "symptoms" I'm seeing,

    - my wireless router is an Asus WL500g
    - wireless connection from my W3V won't work, but in some rare occasions it worked fine (may 1 out 10 connection attempts)
    - sometimes the W3V was able to made the wireless connection to the router and received an IP address, however the media link would be dropped after a few seconds most of the time
    - I found another "Benq" wireless router in my area, and the W3V worked great with it and the connections are consistently well (so this proved the wireless lan card isn't faulty)
    - if I connect another notebook to the router via wireless lan, the W3V's wireless lan will start working !!!

It looks like the router has undergone "sleeping" and my W3V couldn't wake it up, but a second notebook connected could overcome such situation as it was able to keep the router in its active state.

Has anyone seem this phenomenum before and any suggestion for me? (I checked but there is no power related settings in the WL500g)

strange! just as a note, i am using intel's v.8.1.1.0 drivers, cuz i found the v.9 drivers caused my USR 8054 to crash! Even when the router didn't crash, i was having connection problems with it. At university, i didn't have any problems except for a few quarky things. When i downgraded to v.8.1.1.0 after trying everything, including upgrading firmeware of router and even getting a new one, i discovered everything went back to perfect shape. I also don't like that my wireless light doesn't go on with v.9.

Anyway, i don't know if that's any help, but i thought i'd share that with u.

The problem went away after I changed the router to use a fixed channel for wireless communication.

Before the problem was fixed, the channel selection on the router was set at "auto" and the W3V was set at "11". It seems like the router wasn't listening to the W3V's request for using channel 11 for communication !!!

I can sleep well and get on my real work from now [ :)]

I love Asus' wireless products...... really think the newest stuff (wl-330g / wl-530g / wl-hdd2.5g) are really nice and easy to use..

However, the wl-500.... it was always a pain for me. It was feature packed and has awesome range, but if you don't know a lot about wireless, it is hard to set up right, even with the latest firmware.

    Thanks,
    Justin
