    http://tw.asus.com/products1.aspx?l1=0&l2=0&l3=0&modelmenu=0&share=txt/233

Saw that Asus Taiwan has listed W5 dual core on their website:

Black version at NTD56,800....approx. USD1,775 equiv.
White version at NTD62,800...approx. USD1,962 equiv.

    (FX conversion rate...USD1 = NTD32)

    Different specs for both versions.

Anyone knows if similar units be available in the U.S. soon?

They'll be similiar...... but spec is up to the US office to order and price is dependant on that......... it's almost imposible to just do a currency conversion because that's not including shipping costs and taxes to import them into the US......

.... as I've said before - expect close to a 15% premium on the models that do come in based on the current model's pricing.

Thanks. Fully understand why we have different pricing models for both countries with reasons you mentioned.

Again, any idea when these units will be available in the US?

ok.... i'm going to take for granted that you haven't seen the dozen plus times I've said this..... so I'll say it again.

ETA's and ship dates from PROPortable..... These numbers are most important to consumers because these are dates in which they should be able to ship to you from dealers...... For instance.... the V6j / W5f should be leaving Taiwan sometime in this coming week.... figure in oceanliner, customs, getting to Asus, processing, shipping to us, recieving and processing customer's orders.

    V6j / W5f - by week of March 5th.

    W2j / W3j - second half of March at best (19th - 31st)

    Lamborghini VX - mid-March

So USA is actually behind Europe? Strange.

I can already get the V6j and A6j here in Denmark.

That's because Europe is much closer to Taiwan... and because the market over here is slightly different than over there. :asus:

No, the boat has to go PAST the US to get to Europe, by way of the Panama canal! :D

Why take the long route! Ship it over to west coast, within Pacific Ocean.

    A little suggestion...

Just buy one in Taiwan, and smuggle it in.

I would risk it for the duo cored W5s
So irresistible, couldn't get my hands off it when I saw one in stores...XD

I think Europe gets Asus laptops earlier than the US because Asus has a much larger presence and market share there. For example, in Italy Asus laptops is a large brand with apparently massive retail presence.

.... it has more to do Italians' perspective on quality and design rather than anything else.... Asus is a HUGE name there and you can find them in the local big box stores as well as little corner shops.... A lot of it has to do with the fact that their cell phones are the "it" thing to have there as their the newest taiwanese imports...... high tech and high style..

There's a different marketing technique going on there and it wouldn't work in the US because the US is stuck on "name brands" and 95% of people are dumb as a rock when it comes to technology and either don't have a lot of money (because of the economy) or are just cheap (and go buy the $699 POS)....

    Hi,

I am new here and i plan to buy the W5F when it comes out. Being a fan of thin and lights, I know the W5F will fit me well. However, I am wondering how much heat will the W5F put out. This is because I own a Pentium D desktop and that machine puts out a decent amount of heat, running on full load. Does anyone know anything about the heat spec?

I know i'm being paranoid but i have had laptops fail under heat problems. :(
