This problem is bugging me since I got my laptop (july 2005). When transfering files on or from my sd card my whole system slows down (a lot). However when I'm using my external sandisk card reader the transfer speed is not only faster but the system doesn't slow down.
The other day I decided to try a Dell 700m. I transfered a big file from the SD card to the laptop. The laptop didn't have any sign of slowdown and the transfer rate was good.

So any suggestion to solve this??? I don't think it's my HD b/c it a 60 gb 7200 rpm.

Try updating the card readers driver.... there have been a few updates on them through the year.

All my drivers are up to date. Alot of laptop are using the same hardware...perhaps it's a small tweak with Asus bios...
