I am sure you have already seen a few threads like this one, but I couldn't find any.

I am interested in giving Asus a shot for a notebook.

Won't be doing any serious gaming. I did a FAQ sheet in the notebook section already. Looking for something thin and light. Easy to take with me everywhere. Stylish and good for the price.

I think the W5F is over priced and doesn't offer all that much. It's just .2 lbs lighter than the W7J I heard.

The W3J and W7J are close in price with a weight difference of a pound. Not sure if I would notice.

So you tell me. What's the best buy really for the next 2-3 years.

You can't lose with any of the three!

    Raw power... 3

    portability and battary life... 5

balance of portability and power... 7

    Sexy... 3, 5, 7

If Ram is a concern, the integrated 512MG on th 5 and 7 is going to limit you in both now and in the future.

Personally, I'm having the same difficulty myself. If I had to buy one now, I'd probably get the W3J... but I don't... I'm just going to wait until Merom comes out and hope a new unit will emerge that is a clear cut winner!

From what I've read about the different models, and the value you get for price, I wouldn't hessitate to get the W3J.

Ok... no offense to the other comments, but they're both based on other people's comments and without having at least seen them, if not used them... it's hard to give you decent feedback.

First - the W5 has a rebate on it and it does come with things like a bluetooth mouse....... It's physically smaller, so the weight difference really isn't the biggest deal..... but the footprint, design and color draw people to one of the other. The W5's camera rotates away from you and honestly I've seen people get that over the W7 for just that reason. Others prefer the pearl color, or don't need the dedicated graphics and so on.

Basically, I've always said and certainly stress it now that I've used the W7 for a while now, that the W7 is 50% W5 and 50% W3.... it's really meant for that person who can't make up their mind between the two....

So, with that... I'd say the W7 really is what you're looking for although all the machines are so close in everything that it's almost a personal choice that you just need to flip a coin over.

Where could I see the size difference between the W7 and W3?

    Weight and footprint.

Edit: Just saw it on the ProPortable website ;)

Hard to pick between the W7 and W3.

take our dimensions and mark them out on a piece of paper. I can tell you that of all the models we've ever sold, the W3 was my favorite and was my main notebook for close to a year last year. The W7 is my new toy because I can tell the difference between the footprint and the weight, although on paper most people will tell you there's no difference.... that's just bs though unless you have both to compare.... take my opinion at face value, but I have experience with both. Now... if you *need* 256mb x1600 - get the W3 because you're not going to get it in anything smaller...... but take it from me taht the 128mb 7400 is still an awesome card, especially if it allows you to get smaller and lighter... Again.. can't go wrong with any of them, especially if you never see the others in real life.... but I was looking for something a bit smaller, yet the dedicated graphics were still important... So since they made something inbetween the W5 and W3... it was perfect.

When Asus imports the White W7 in the U.S. I'll buy one right away. Barring that, I'll stick with my W5F.

If you're a roadwarrior like me, you'll really appreciate that "0.2 lb."

    :)
