Greetings - my w5a battery is original...need I say more :) it lasts 5 minutes, literally!

Looking for replacement batteries is a little daunting...very few hits come up for a direct replacement (70-na12B2000), which is perhaps because it is a white 6 cell battery?

Anyway, I'm just looking for something that will fit; could be a 6 or 9 cell, silver or white - even black for the right price. I found something I thought would work at intelligentbattery.com, but checked a couple of user reviews of customer service before buying and have decided against it for the time being.

The W5a was my trusty companion for more than 3 years, and it served me well. Now my wife has it, and I feel badly that she is always tethered to a plug.

You could try the ASUS eStore. Be aware that, because the computer is old, any original batteries still on sale may have sit on the shelf for a long while, and may therefore be significantly worn out.

Thanks; the estore is expensive, but may be worth the cost as insurance for working.

RE: original batteries sitting for so long, though, perhaps that is a reason to use an OEM replacement battery? anyone using a non-OEM battery in their Asus?

Eddie over @ BTOTech has W5 batteries for $119 + ship.

These will be OEM with more recent manufacture date, in all likelihood, as he gets them from a supplier at periodic intervals. You can PM him @ Geared2Play, or LiveChat from his website.
