I currently own a W7J, and am planning to buy a 9cell from ProPortable. This means my 6cell would become my emergency/backup/only if needed for a long trip, battery.

However, im wondering how i should "store" my 6cell. =/

Ive read in the manual that the battery should not be stored without charge....
But i figure even a charged battery will eventually degrade its charge over time.

So, would i have to pull it out of the closet every 2 months or so and pop it into the notebook for a recharge? or will this be bad for it? I hear they only recharge a certain number of times? (in the owners manual i think it was).

.....How do i store this stock 6cell battery so that it is still funtional if i need to use it as a backup battery (for a trip or something) in the near future? o_O

lithium ion batteries are best stored at 70-80% charged (not full)... this gives the longest life.
the life goes down gradually with time and has nothing to do with recharging again and again...

hmmm 70 - 80% =/.... meh, how would i know though? lol. Charge it to full, then discharge it to about 80%, then power down and store it?

Seriously wondering, cause i'd hate to have the stock 6 hr die on me before i even have a need to use it again. :(

To store it at 80% just use if for a while. Personally, I prefer to just rotate batteries in and out when I have multiples. Just use one for a while, discharge it and charge it back up. I find even if I need more capacity as a general statement, I will always know that I am just going to use my computer for a little while and use the smaller batter for that.

I've heard that you should store it at 40-50% charge... although I'm sure it doesn't really matter in reality.

Awesome, this info is pretty good. :)

40% and toss it into the fridge. i would have never guessed to be honest... and the manual has no mention of this method of lithium battery storage.

i'm also gonna start taking the battery out of the laptop, when im running on AC... should reduce the heat it takes, and the wear, i'd guess. *based on the above reading links*

    thanks again :D

Exactly what I would do. For casual use around the house, thow the small batt in. For daily trips out of the house, throw the large batt in. For lenthy travel, bring the spare. No need to worry about storing the thing. Just use it when it's convenient. Keep in mind, the 6 cell battery is lighter for casual use and it still holds a 2.5-3 hour charge!
