Put your LCD brightness to the max and your ear near your LCD and you will hear a high frequented constant "beeping" noise that sounds somewhat like when an old TV is turned on. The best way you can hear the noise is when you use the FN+LCD button to switch the screen on and off while your are holding your ear close to the screen. You can also hear the sound from further away if you compare ON-OFF of the screen. I am moderately pissed because i did not expect something likewise to happen to an ASUS notebook. Maybe it is just my machine. Can anyone check? maybe it is normal to have screen noise.
Thanks

I'm not hearing it. It's either you have a defective inverter or VERY sensitive years. When the inverter is pumping up the 12V DC to 1000V and 400herz, sometimes there is very high frequencies that are emitted from the inductors. Do you really need to turn the lcd to the highest? I know these little things you bug you but is it necessary to say you are dissapointed with ASUS? Every single high end item you purchase, you can pick a weaknes or 'flaw' in the design.

Goldserve, this is not the only thing that is bothering me, it seems like I caught a defective device. I have issues such as 14% wear level, extremely Shock sensitive display (the slightest movement creates ripples on the lcd), a row of strange sounding keys such as the TAB key. Ultimately this makes me an unsatesfied customer of asus.

If you feel it is that bad, can't you bring it back and let them tell you if what you are seeing is normal? This seems to be like the notebook from hell. It did not pass any quality assurance or anything like that! I hope it goes well for you.
-
That unit surely would have not passed QC [if it's as bad as you say it is].
It most likely got damaged between ASUS TW and you... I would get that replaced ASAP.
If it's within 30 days, check with your reseller for a possible new unit. -
thanks for the input guys, I am certain that this is not usual Asus quality since i was in posession of an Asus notebook before and I was very pleased with the quality. I bought it off a street retailer in HongKong which now I realize was a big mistake. It seems as if the device was not new in the first place. However, I still have 2 years international warranty. I will contact Asus Germany now and hopefully I can work out a replacement or repair.

Let's just hope it's a real ASUS...
-
it would be a little harsh to assume it is not a real Asus I think. It looks and acts real to be but it seems to be damaged. So you guys dont record any sound made by the LCD while listening closely?
-
Nope... and if you're also having other display issues, you should definitely have it fixed.

Ray, you are absolutely right, In my case I am afraid that components such as Battery and display eventually have been switched although the dealer should have been a reliable one with a good rep.
I think once the device gets sent to asus they will figure out what is wrong, i will keep you guys postet. Thanks for the support -

usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
The Sony PSP I had did the same thing, if you put the brightness all the way up, there was a faint high frequency type sound.
-
Perhaps the voltage regulator controlling the backlight?
-
i think its RMA time, i wonder if they will replace my machine with a refurbished one. In this case i would be really mad because I would not have a new machine anymore. How does asus repair notebooks?
-
ok, i sent the device out per TNT Netherlands, Lets see what they do with it, i will keep you Guys Postet!!
