I just tried to connect a dell 20" widescreen monitor that is 1650 x 1050 and in dual view mode, I can drive the panel at the native resolution but only at 16-bit colour????

In single view mode, I can drive it in 32-bit colour mode. My friend's ibm radeon 7500 or my friend's macbook with the intel card can both do dualview at full resolution and 32-bit colour mode.

    Question: What gives???

I do 1920 x 1200 on my 23" sony all the time.... I can do it without a hitch on the W7j or anything else..... The V6j has the same graphics card and that's fine as well..... I used to do it on my old W3v w/ a 64mb ATI x600.... even the newer intel integrated solutions can pump up well beyond that....

1650 x 1050 is WSXGA+, isn't it? That's an odd resolution and although Asus uses it alot on their 15.4" notebooks, for desktop monitors, I believe that's not so common place.... some systems won't even let you output WSXGA+, but it'll do everything from VGA to WUXGA or higher.......

That's odd.... perhaps you should mention it to Asus... it may be a driver issue that they don't know about and if someone mentions it, they can send that info to Taiwan and they could work on it.... I haven't tried WSXGA+ out on the W7, but I've got a PW201 20" Asus in my bedroom which is WSXGA+... if I can remember to do that went I get home, I'll let you know how that works.
