I am torn between W7J and Sony's SZ-110/B. Both are nice laptops and suit very well for my needs. I would definitely go with W7J if it is available now.

So, here is my question. How long do I have to wait for the W7J arrival? I am looking to get my new lappy in a month or two.

    Thanks,
    AW

It's like a dagger in my heart! I was beginning to wonder if the W7j was just a dream in NA -- the Kaiser Soza of the computer world. Some have been so sure of its release in the US (in June no less!); while others seem so sure it won't. Can I ask why you doubt its release in the US, Eddie? Can i still hold out hope for the Z35f?

The fact is that North America is a very unique market. I think they wont release it because its price would be close to the W3J. If thats the case, no one would buy it because they can get a slightly larger W3J with a much better video card for a similar price.

I don't think the w3j would impact the sales of the w7j if Asus decides to bring it to North America. I see the w7j as a direct competition to Sony's sz and I'm certain it will sell very well just because it fits the bill for many users who finds a 12” too small and a 14” a bit big. Besides, the w7j might be cheaper than the Sony sz so it’s a big plus.

Isn't the W3j sold in other parts of the world where Asus also sells the W7j?

I have seen the w7j for sale on several swiss sites at prices around 1800-2000 euros. I also feel it would not hurt w3j sales its a different size and definately tailored to a different consumer. Asus needs to standardize their machine releases, to do so they need to provide machines globally not regionally. It may have worked 20 years ago, but if asus doesn't lead with their best products throughout the world someone else (apple, lenovo) will.

I really really want the W7J to come to the UK soon. I've emailed the techs, they just tell me to check the asus website. Useless!!!!

Given that the W7j has been released elsewhere in the world, I've tried to find some reviews of it, but with no luck. Frustrating.

Just so you guys know, we were given the first official ETA for the W7j........ expect it in the color black, at the end of June / early July...... for the about $100 less than the W5f.

That's great news! According to the Asus site, the W7j seems to only have one RAM slot. Is that correct?

Also, it says that the max RAM is 1.5GB. That seems odd to me. Is it not possible to put a 2GB stick in that one slot?

I have not recieved a demo yet, but my understanding is that it's much like the W5f and Z35f in terms of motherboard size and layout..... This means, and this is an educated guess.... that 512mb will be onboard and Asus will fill the one open dimm with another 512mb to give the customer 1gb out of the box. This situation would limite the overall ram expansion to 1.5gb, if you remove the one 512mb dimm and install a 1gb dimm. Now, down the road (before the end of the year), 2gb sticks should be available and therefore, eventually 2.5gb should be the max (through a bios update down the road).

... Oh, and by the way.. it's not odd... on systems of this size, onboard memory takes up a LOT less space in all directions........ an open dimm requires a socket..... and also a way to reach it...... so in these super small systems which are packed to the brim for their size...... it's the most efficient method.

yes good news indeed....especially about it coming to the US in black unlike the W5F and with a competitive pricepoint.
