I just saw on the front page of notebookreview that the w7j wasn't just getting a core upgrade, but also getting the gpu swapped from a 7400go to an x1400. Can someone confirm this, maybe a dealer? Is it a typo? And what would compel them to do this? Less heat, more battery life, cheaper price? I would think that since AMD and ATI merged, we would see less intel+ATI combinations floating around.

The 7400 = x1400, so either way, its almost the same GPU.

I never heard of it til now, so its quite interesting.

Not only is this notebook and other asus notebooks a concept but yes you are right about ati and amd. I would be weary of any forecasts at this time. Merom is scheduled (delayed once already) for release in the states in small numbers in oct. Asus will integrate the chips a few months later at best.

I was under the impression ATI mobile chips run cooler and used less power in general, although I definitely have no proof. If they did modify the graphics chip, they might have modified a few other things or fixed a few quirks or miscalculations to make the w7j run cooler and prolong battery life. Wishful thinking I guess.
