    what heat 'problem' ?

upgrading ram shouldnt make the laptop excessively hotter...?

the w7j/w7s runs hotter than normal ultraportables anyway...

When I run the laptop for half hour, it is very hot already and the fan turn on with a noisy sound. I didnt run many programs when i use it. Sometime I didnt run anything, but still I feel too hot and the fan keep running.
Compare with other same feature laptop, W7S is too hot.
Do you know any way to solve or reduce this problem?

    1. The fan will always run on nearly all the notebooks from the newer generations. Why? More powerful components; they heat up more.
    2. Excessive heat. From reviews, W7S seems indeed to get hotter than other similar computers. That part you cannot address. However if you have had it for a while and didn't clean the dust from the ventilation system, please do: check the Info Booth sticky (my sig), Cleaning guide.

So, is there any other way to solve it, like update a bios or change setting in window?
    Thanks

    Solve what?

Some BIOS versions change the thermal (fan) policies, so indeed you should update to the latest version to make sure you use the last (and hopefully best) fan policy.

Asus W7S is well known for its heat problem. try googling for W7S and u can find many user have similar problem. Overheated. I've got W7S as well. it's the mainboard and graphic card problem that cause the laptop overheat. My W7S is so hot until the windows genuine sticker peeled-off by itself... anyway i manage to solve the problem. bring it over to Asus Singapore and they replaced my mainboard with W7Sg series, they also replaced my graphic card to 9300M G 256MB. plus they upgrade my RAM to 3GB. how sweet huh? and all for free...
    gotta love this Asus man...

Can I just call them and ask them to replace those parts for me?

Have you tried cleaning the dust as we suggested above?

I did it yesterday for the W7Sg (which is the newer cooler version of W7S), and even though there was only a fine layer of dust on the fan blades, and not much dust on the heat radiator, it made a significant difference in fan speed required to keep it cool during gaming.

well I didn't specifically ask to replace the mainboard and graphic card. They just automatically replaced for me. maybe they are aware of these problem.
because that day my notebook's lcd was totally screwed up. the screen was divided into 6 small images. i went over and told them about this lcd problem. plus i told them that my notebook was having an EXTREMELY HOT problem.
apparently they take note of that. next 3 days, when i received back my laptop, it was all upgraded. plus the free 3GB RAM (previously only 1.5GB).

my current GPU temp is at 64-68C running normal mode. (internet, watching movie on media player, etc).
i haven't try what's the temp while running game.

you should quickly bring over to ASUS service center while you still have 3 months warranty.

I'd suggest taking EBE's advice and clean your heatsink and fan before RMAing your notebook to Asus.

If that doesn't help your heat issue, you should then call the Asus hotline (510-739-3777) and request a RMA

64-68C is low for GPU temp....My W7s is up in the mid-70s right now.

I need to see if they can do something about the heat - its already gone through one motherboard (heat related GPU failure, I believe...)

probably i'm in the aircon room? is that supposed to help to lower down the temp? not sure. I'm in a tropical country anyway.
