I'm thinking in buying the W7S and I want to put 2GB of memory in the only available socket.
I saw in the ASUS web site that it only takes up to 1536MB:

Main Memory - On board 512MB DDRII-667 DRAM, 1x SODIMM socket up to 1536MB

    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=75&l3=298&l4=0&model=1667&modelmenu=2

I don't understand this because the new 965 intel aceppts until 4GB.

Does any one knows if i can put 2GB in one socket?

    Thanks

I'm not sure if that was a straight copy paste off the W7j, which had the 512mb of RAM soldered in. Anyways, I'm sure 2gb sticks are available to use in it, so 2.5gb would be max.

I hope it was a copy error because I want a pc with at least 2GB of memory.
I have a W7J and the maximum memory that it supports is 1.5GB and I'm going to change it because of that.

What you intend to do with your laptop ?
Increasing memory does not always help you to get better performance.

But with Vista, more memory is always a good thing, until you go past 4GB.

It shouldn't be much of a problem though, if all you need is 2GB. A 2GB stick of memory costs $125, so its a reasonable price to go for 2.5GB of memory. I hope that it is a copy error though, I hope that if it has built in mem, it should be atleast 1GB embedded RAM.

I want to change my W7J to a W7S because I installed Vista and it stayed very slow, so I installed again XP.
If the W7F will only accept 1.5GB of memory I won’t buy it.
I also hope that it is a copy error and that it will have 1GB soldered memory.

Yea, it only takes 1.5 GBs. That should be more than adequate for Vista though.

512 + 2GB you stick in, its configurable up to 2.5, not an additional configuration of 2.5

This has been confirmed to be 2.5GB on the W7J and thus the W7S will have the same max. And with the prices of 2GB memory sticks coming down, its not too unreasonable to buy one.

I like the fact that its been updated to DDR2 667, its better than the 533 that was on the W7J.

 ... I've just ordered one on Wednesday night from a local asus distributor. I asked them to upgrade to 2GB RAM, they said no problem...... (_ _|||)

By the way, is 1.5GB RAM enough for Vista? Mainly used for online chatting, web surfing, photoshop & illustrator, mp3 & movie playback and some moderate gaming...

Oh my god, didn't see the word "On-Board"...

    Thanks guys

1.5 is okay, but it may stall every once in a while thanks to Vista being a memory hog. 2gb is a sweet spot for notebooks nowadays, it'd be best to have at least 2gb RAM.

2GB should be made minimum for Vista.

2.5GB is easily enough for that, even though vista is a memory hog you should have more than enough for your programs to play with.

I can't understand why Asus would put embedded memory in any of their products. Seems almost as dumb as having an integrated GPU :(
