Pulled the trigger today. I was about to get the PortableOne MX but this size and weight is exactly what I wanted. I saw that the price already went up 50 dollars so I purchased it.
Two questions for you milestonPC.
When should I expect to receive the notebook? I live in Atlanta, GA (ordered off of your new US site)
I changed to a 7200 rpm hard drive. Is the 1 year warranty now through you guys?
Thanks and can't wait to get it in like 3 weeks probably.

Trigger pulled:
Thanks Danny.
1 x Asus Notebook W7J / Core Duo T2400 1.83Ghz 677MHz 2MB Cache / 1024MB DDR2 533MHz / 100G SATA 5400RPM / DVD RW / Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 128MB / Wireless 3945 a/b/g / 13.3" WXGA /1.3 Mega- pixels Webcam/ XP Pro / 1 year warranty ( Black color ) (W7J)
1 x Upgrade 1024M to 1536M DDR2 667 ( Corsair / OCZ) (1536M notebo)
1 x Upgrade 100G 5400 SATA HD to 80G 7200 SATA HD (Seagate)
I didn't really know which 7200rpm hard drive was preferrable by most, either Hitachi or Seagate. I opted for the Seagate. Is one considered better or, doesn't really matter.. probably a coin toss. -
Can tax be waived for folks from Cali???

--- The hard drive has 3 year warranty, you can deal with us, but if you deal with Hitachi should be faster.
--- Seagate HD has 5 yr warranty, you can deal with us, but if you deal with seagate should be faster.
--- CA tax is still there, maybe one day when we have an office in Nevada, you can save that. -
I just had a question about this. All the specs I have seen list the standard memory as 533mhz. If you get the 1gb 667mhz ram upgrade, it still runs at 533mhz. So, isn't it pointless to purchase 667mhz memory unless you can also change the 512mb memory to 667mhz also?
Also, if I remember the laws correctly. Even if Milestonepc opened up a branch in Nevada, there is still a subsidary in California which means you still have to pay sales tax. That is unless you close down the Cali branch. -

So which Hard Drive is considered better, Seagate or Hitachi ?

Seagate!!!

I lean towards Seagate a little bit more because Hitachi always claims their 7200rpm HD will be warmer in slim laptops and they don't garrantee the performance, but I don't really see much problem with the heating issue, but if you worry about this heat, go seagate (if it make you feel cooler) or stay with 5400rpm.
I was always wondering about the above Hitachi comments on their own products, bulky HP or Dell usually don't use 7200rpm, our slim models Hitachi won't garrantee, then who do they design the HD for? -
^ Dell has the option for a 7200RPM HD on almost every notebook they offer. I think right now every notebook except Dells Latitude notebooks like the X1 that use a 1.8" drive. I'm not sure about HP, but they do offer the option on some of their laptops.
-
I picked the Seagate 100G 7200 RPM for myself cause it has 5 years warranty. I think this is more important than the others.
-
Hitachi took over IBM's harddrive division. IBM harddrives (Deskstars) were a good value and fast back in the day until they started failing (most likely due to heat) and given the nickname "deathstar." I had two deathstars die on me. I haven't heard of any recent problems but I'm still wary to buy. -

Hitachi notebook HDs are known for being a little warmer, slighty noisier, better performance and cheaper than Seagate.
Seagate notebook HDs are known for being cooler, have less noise (silent), slightly less performance, and slightly more expensive.
Since Hard Disks only have an expected 3-5 years of life, its good to have a long warranty, to cover any problems that may occur. -

i'm very interested the W7j , i like white color more than black one.., any free shipping to malaysia ?? Does the order comes with AC Adaptor90W AC Adaptor?
T.q -
You'd be lucky to get free shipping down the street... Malaysia, I think not. I think you'd be better off purchasing from Taiwan where Asus manufactures the products.

i just need a battery test and my mind is made up....its gotta be at least 3 hrs

MileStonePC.com, eWiz.com has the same unit on Pre-order for $1436.85. Will you pricematch?
-
MilestonePC.com Company Representative
If that price is for unlimited supply, of course I have to follow, but if it is only for a very very limited qty, it will be another story. For example if I offer 2 units for $1349/each, there is no reason for the whole market start a price war because these 2 units, am I right?
This topic is too hot, not good for a public forum like this, if you want to talk more with me, PM me.

Edit: OOps, seya, after I posted it, I found you changed the target from G2P to eWiz.com -

Ewiz is a US company based in the States, MilestonePC is a Canadian company only at the moment, and the price they offer is in Canadian dollars. Keep that in mind when you're asking for a price match.

Yeah we are happy. I am vouching for Danny and MileStonePC here. He went through this whole w7j price war with the customer in mind and really pulled through for us. If you ordered at MileStone you can't complain about the price, trust me.
I would recommend business with them to anyone. They are honest and keep you up to date on everything. -
Wow these W7j's seem cheap! I never would have guessed that they would sell for around $1500.
-
I couldn't agree more!! -
Yeah, I agree that MileStonePC has been very fair and generous in their handling of the price for pre-orders. I'm very impressed!

Thanks for the pics linsook, it looks really nice.
Oh man I want mine so bad. They called me, but it was too late I couldn't make it in time. I really hope they still have one sunday morning. -

You can come back any time to pick up the case and I will throw in a nice IBM notebook optical mouse for your double trip, but better on Sunday or Monday because Tuesday I will be in Fremont already.

-
So do you guys have the W7J's yet? Or is it still on a pre-order basis? Just wondering cause your site still says pre-order.
-
I'd also like to know if it's available yet! I really want one ASAP.. been waiting for quite a bit now but couldn't get my money locked up in the pre-order.
I called the Markham store Friday and they didn't have any yet
Is this another store where you picked yours up from? -

Can I reserve one by purchasing it online ?
I can definitely be there 1st thing tomorrow
Thanks! -

thanks again. -
just placed order for in US. :O
Can't wait. -
Since it seems danny is replying in this thread the most, I have a few questions...
I ordered on the asus s96j's from the website, and I decided to order it through pay at pickup..
except I didn't specify where I wanted it to be picked up. and it seems strange to me that they can assemble a built-on asus without any commitment.
can anyone explain this? is milestonepc just really faithful? and theres no info about reseller warranty options. -
any update on when will your US store start shipping the pre-ordered w7j's? I'm anxiously waiting ^^
W7j Cd$1649 ( Us$1499 )
