So I understand 512ram is soldered onto to W7J, I'm looking into getting this laptop, and i hope that it will last 3-4 years. I think maybe within the next year or so 1gb ram will not be enough to run the latest software, 1.5gb is even slim? what do you guys think? is this an inhibitive factor?

furthermore, what made Asus solder this onboard? they dont do it for any other laptops..

by the time you actually need more than 1.5GB memory, 2GB memory sticks will be reasonably priced, so you can technically upgrade to 2.5GB later on, with a BIOS update.

This issue was addressed thoroughly in a thread from late last week. See pg 3 specifically.
