I received my W90 from Newegg on Monday March 3rd and so far here are my quick observations:

    1. Laptop is massive. Very well built. The 18.4 screen is big enough that you can actually play games at 1920x1080 without needing a magnifying glass. There are vents in the front, underneath, back and sides. Its a very heavy duty design. The shipping box was 34 pounds. the laptop must be at least 12 pounds and the power supply at least 2 -3 pounds. the power supply is massive also. The laptop came with a beautiful Asus backback case made by Targus. Laptop fits fine but can't find a spot to carry the power supply.

    2. I have played WOW, Crysis, Command and Conquer and the new Hawx demo at maximum settings with no issues at all. I will give detailed FPS later on after I conduct more testing. This laptop is faster than my P8400 OC to 3.9GHZ running a 9800GTX card. WOW was running at over 125 FPS and Crysis was around 35-45FPS at max resolution.

    3. After playing above mentioned games for hours and multiboxing WOW the laptop never got warm. The fans are always at whisper quiet mode. Only when it first boots up I hear all 3 fans going but never after that. I am realy impressed by the air temparatures.

    4. The keyboard is excellent for fast typing and playing games. Its better than my x205 Toshiba its replacing. One thing I did not like is the volume control. I sometimes rub my finger over it by mistake and it changes the settings.

    5. So far I am really happy about this purchase. Never had any hickups or blue screens of death. I even overclocked it using its turbo button and the W90 just kept on playing with no strain at all lol.

I will post again as soon as I get more results.

    Congratulations on your new laptop.

I'm I right in saying, that there is space for both the laptop and power adoptor, in the backpack, but just no designated space for the latter? or is there just no way to put the adoptor in?

34 pounds?! Wow that's insane. Also that's a huge flaw if the backpack they give cant fit in the backpack, oh well you get it for free anway.

What?! A p8400 at almost 4 ghz? Thats insane! What are those temps.

glad to hear about the fans my FX's fans always drive me nuts :D

Good to hear about the keyboard the most important thing in a 18"" notebook.

Also great to there about no bugs/BSOD guess Asus worked out those problems(i guess)

Lastly, congrats on your purchase enjoy :D

OMG cant believe the had it on power save mode and though that a 5k 3dmark score was normal just because it had a dual core....

Id rather stay away from something so big and dual cards but i really like the look of the laptop overall. I am sad to hear the super glossy screen trend continues. I really do not like the G50 screen too much due to that.

I may buy a polarizer one day to put on there I think thats suppose to block the reflections.

I know what you are saying, for some reason these days i can help but admire how awesome netbooks matte screens look in comparison.

Its not so much how they look because in theory a glossy screen looks better, its a matter of seeing what is behind the screen instead of a reflection.

Usability if you will, also as a photoshoper the colors are more accurate on a matte screen.

Im so happy my 1000H has a matte screen, id die if a ultra portable was glossy. The C90S had a something Asus called "Hybrid Technology" it was a semi glossy screen. It was perfect. It had a small boost to vibrancy & contrast but you did not see you reflection on it.

I thought the G50V was the same but when I got it, I could see it definitely was not.

    Can not compute lol.

    Your comparing two different things.

The "coating" of the screen is what we are talking about when we say matte or glossy.

Plasma is the monitor type, AKA Plasma is a common TV monitor type.

Laptops are LCD, so whats better LCD or Plasma is a valid question if you were asking about a TV or Desktop monitor.

As for the finer details almost every laptop LCD is a TFT LCD Panel, on desktops you can find nicer ones like IPS that have a higher color gamut and better native characteristics like view ranges.

TFT Panels are known for there low refresh time and cheap cost.

it was sort of like a trick question....lol
plasma screens have an extra coating of glass. which is what really brings them to life.
another trick for turning matte into gloss.
when you get a new screen they give you that glossy protector..leave it on and you have a high glossy finish screen..take it off and your back to matte...lol

I'm not sure about plasma panels but I fail to see how an extra layer of glass gloss over a matte coating improves on things. Kinda like Dell's Edge-to-Edge monitors - all the downsides of a glossy screen (reflective) without the advantages of true gloss panels (improve contrast, colors etc). So it's purely cosmetic. In that case just give me the matte. No matter what you use to cover the original coating it will still be the lowest common denominator.

I'm not sure about plasma panels but I fail to see how an extra layer of glass gloss over a matte coating improves on things. first off, i never said anything about glass over matte, so im not sure what your trying to get at with that. and plasmas are glass over glass

when you buy a new lcd screen, they come with a screen protector it's a clear piece of plastic. when you bought your shinny new laptop it came with a screen protector taped to it. that is if you bought one recently.

and as for being reflective...turn the screen. real simple to do. i don't even see the refection like that. a slight turn and refection is gone. but then im not one of them trying to scrutinize the refection theory. i have both, matte and gloss and the gloss looks far better and brighter.

^^^ and this here.... i think your going a bit deeper than need be. i was talking about a 50 cent piece of screen protector. nothing more. sure, it reflects, but out of the last 10 screens i sold, half of those people left that 50 cent piece of plastic on because they like how bright the colors look. and gave that gloss feel with out spending for it. now if they get tired of the "gloss look" they can un-tape it and they have their brand new matte screen. which is free of finger prints and dust due to the screen protector.

Ok I suppose you weren't refering to plasma then but reading that I got the impression you were still talking about plasma screens...my mistake.
The "gloss look" lol.....hey it's nice and shiny so it must be good. I see the virtue of gettingg a protector to protect the screen but I wouldn't get one just so I can "admire" the glossy look bbut that's just me. If you can convince ppl to buy it for whatever reason all the power to you :)

    lol
yeah, "gloss look" or "shinny look" then when someone says something along the matte vs gloss...they just lift the plastic a bit and show they own a matte. best of both worlds i guess...lol

    or not

but yet it's done around the world.
