I know our assumption was really more of an educated guess and then with the big rebate, it became all but certain. Today Asus at least admitted that when the current selection is gone, the next order to Taiwan is for WSXGA+ screens.

The only thing left up in the air is delivery... they were tight lipped about that and said there is nothing even set yet at this point, but basically the W2j isn't going anywhere and that means they want to continue the model in the country, but once the current WXGA+ screens are gone, they will be selling WSXGA+ models.

I guess I could say one thing in an effort to help Asus move the current models....... You can't get a WXGA+ W2j anywhere in the world for as cheap as you can get it in the US at this point with the $200 rebate. Still a great system with a great screen (brightness is awesome), and it's *the* choice those who want a media center at closer to $2,000.00

I agree, get it now, for those who want a w2j. I think it was a mistake for asus, to stuff a wxga screen into the w2j. If they started with the wsxga, possibly all the place over the world would enjoy a cheaper w2j.

Huh? The cost of the notebook has to do with what's in it..... it's not going to be lower if they used that screen originally all over the world..... that doesn't really change anything. The extra $200 off on the current US model is simply because they placed an order for the high res models with the expectation of selling a certain number of those models with those screens..... if they knew they were getting the lower res models in the first place, the order would have been probably 15% of what it was, if that..... So now they're breaking even and just getting rid of them. No way it would have been cheaper from the begining if they got the WSXGA+ screens, becasue we already know that the price was going to be $2,499.00 USD.

The price of the notebookactually is determine by the market price, which in it's category, the XPS, MacbookPro 17". And due to the manufacturing cost, over a long term, the price would be cut down, IF the products before had sold out, but that is not the case, u also notice how many wxga+ notebook u have in the warehouse. There is no possibility of a price cut, if the stock before werent sold, they can onli cut the price of the wxga, not the wsxga. If they had started with the WSXGA, we might get the price of $2400 by the this time.

Or maybe this is just some evil scheme of asus, creating the wxga+ to bump up the price of the wsxga+. Just my thoughts, correct me if i my wrong. Would like to learn more bout this marketing ****.

EDIT: the four **** is actually a word starting out with shi. dunno y it also ban a word like that.. haha

The biggest cost to a laptop is without a doubt the CPU...... the cpu costs more than the LCD, the motherboard, the hard drive....... You're wrong and you're wrong because you think you know, but you have no idea (what ad was that from?) .... anyway, the next shipment that Asus brings in is already past a price drop and therefore, more than likely would be upgraded a bit....... keeping it's price point. It would be $2,400, but no one can say for sure because the configuration isn't known yet. The current model is at it's price because:

    1. Originally it was a WSXGA+ at $2,499
    2. When it turned out to have WXGA+ they dropped it $100
    3. When the cpu prices dropped, they needed to drop it another $100
    4. At the time they weren't selling, so they decided to give it another $100 off.......
    5. We land at the current $2,199....

So, if they keep the same cpu, yes I think seeing it at $2,399 is possible, but it just depends on what they put in it. I mean I like your view of it, but Asus has suppliers and the US market is still small potatoes for them..... they're not sitting on all these screens and that's not going to have anything to do with the next model.... I swear.
