I'm going to uni this year and I was going to get a new laptop. I thought of getting the g1s until I saw the pics of the F8S. Now, I have no idea how the F8 will compare with the G1 in terms of graphic performance (I'm hoping similar) but I saw that I could save $90 if I bought a g1 now. I'm also not sure the size difference between a 14" and a 15.4". Is it significant?

Thanks for the help in advance.

The HD 2600 will not perform as well as the 8600M GT. Most likely it will be close to or better than 8600GS. The power consumption will be lower because it is manufactured at 65nm.

It probally will outpreform the 8600. The HD 2900 with the newer driver can match or beat a GTX

So... does that mean the F8 will beat G1S for Gaming?

pretty significant i would say, whether you want it to fit perfectly in a college desk or you want it to stick out a bit ;)

the ATI 2600 without XT is a big difference from it with XT, at least the desktop version is. From what I have posted before, I found a website that said that the ram speed difference ranges anywehre from 100 to 200 MHz. ALthough I can't say for sure, I can say the desktop version of 2600XT is twice as expensive as 2600.

The XT is the overclock version of the normal 2600. The X2600XT will most likely be 25%-35% faster. The R600 is known to perform better on synthetic benchmarks than the G8000, but in real world gaming the G8000 beats the R600 hands down.

We haven't got enough benchmarks to prove that yet, in fact there is only a single benchmark AFAIK and that was done a month ago - the drivers are bound to have been improved in this time - on that 20" HP monster.
