Hi all,
So this is my first post on this forum. I've been on the w3j waiting list since 4/12 or so, but just dropped off today in favor of a V6Va. Couldn't cut it! How many of you think I'm crazy?![]()
Just wanted to say thanks to all the folks on this forum. Its been incredibly informative and entertaining lurking here for the past eight weeks or so. Such drama! Sorry I haven't posted yet but I've been booked solid with finals, etc. I can't believe how obsessive shopping for a new lappy can be, particularly an ASUS. I swear there's some kind've subliminal message being flashed on this forum compelling one to check in fifty times a day... 'any word on the shipping date?'... 'has it left Taiwan yet'?
I told Sasha at C9tech (awesome to purchase from, BTW, and very patient with my noob-ness) that I don't think I've been so paralized by indecision since trying to decide whether I wanted to get married or not. I started my laptop search with Dell (doesn't everybody?), discounted them cuz they're butt-ugly. Next discovered the Fujitsu N3530-- I'm a sucker for a pretty face-- but the thing weighs a ton, probably needs a small nuclear device in there to power that screen. Found Asus, thankfully, after that. Had my finger trembling above the enter key to order a Z70Va, thanks to the awesome reviews on here (thanks Coriolis and others) But, then came the w3j, and all the hype... and hype is addictive. I really wanted a machine in time for my summer work/school travels though, starting in a couple weeks. I can't claim to be a hardcore gamer so I didn't really NEED the x1600, and although the 15.4" WSXGA+ would've been my top choice of monitor the conversations about the IPS had me really intruiged. With the $200 off + $200 rebate offer that came up today on the V6Va, it was just too much. Okay, so its not dual-core, but I think it's still a machine that'll rock like a hurricane for a couple years or so. I do a lot of coding and data munging so I'm sure I'll appreciate the extra vertical.
Anyway, thanks again all, awesome forum here. At the risk of sounding like a tool, I really think the resellers + users that hang out here create a great community that you tap into when you buy an Asus, something a little beyond the stickers on the machine that makes it even more worthwhile.
Cheers,
Sem
IPS, b**ches!![]()

well if u're a coder and dont do much gaming then i'd say it's a pretty darn good decision.
-
i don't know if i should be mentioning this, but the fujitsu e8210 is the lighter version of the n3530 and comes with the x1400 as well...but the v6va is a beautiful machine with a great screen!
-
Like Loaf said, if you're not gaming...and don't care about multitasking, then you made a fine decision.
-
Does Asus offer this type of screen (perhaps with less resolution, but the same enhanced viewing angles) on other machines?
-
Hi, not that I'm aware of: it was apparently only on some V6Va runs as SXGA+. There's a thread here that gives a chart of asus screens, might be helpful: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39279&highlight=IPS+screens+14
Post #10. -
Very nice choice, you'll be very happy, like me
-
Enjoy the computer! -
Thanks guys,
Ejl, that Fuji looks fine! Very happy with my decision tho.
Cori, what is sort've the current limit of gaming for this machine? Will I be able to play, say, Oblivion?
Cheers,
Sem -
^ I think Obliv. is run...at least without many settings turned on.

You should be able to run on medium to low settings. 8 x 6 with some stuff turned on (HDR, maybe AA). 1024 x 768 without AA and maybe HDR.
-
Oblivion runs fine at mid settings, with some eye candy turned on. Don't push the resolution too high though
-
No matter which way you slice it, it runs better than it is currently running on my w3j
lol.
Sometimes we have to laugh, because if we don't laugh, we cry. -
^ I would say the same thing, but my Xbox360 said it would kill me for lying (or for taking Oblivion out of the disk tray, save for a little MLB action).
-
good choice, you can do a lot with 400$
-
Yea, I splurged on a new backpack! Maybe I'll buy this WOW game that I've heard a little about...
Actually it looks like the deal is applying to most of the older ensemble lineup. -
I think this is a good move, win win situation on both sides because P-M is not exactly slow
-
The PM is nowhere near slow, if anything, I find it at 800mhz more then I would expect, so 80%, if not higher, I'm using less then 30% of the max power thats avaliable!
Waitlist dropout... who thinks I'm nuts?
