I want to get an asus but one of my requirements is that it has a led backlit display. Of course this does not leave me with many options at the moment. But does anyone know about any upcoming 14''(preferably) or 13'' asus led backlighted laptops? Should I just go with the sony SZ or wait? How long do you think I would have to wait for something like this?
    Thanks

It's just been confirmed that the 13" U3s will not have LED backlights, so you're out of luck.

The U1f will have backlights of course, but it's significantly smaller than what you're asking for.

In other words, Asus will not be coming out with LED backlights in the sizes you want anytime soon. Go with the Sony if you really want them.

From the review, it seems to be a technology that helps make screens thinner. The SZ linked by the OP has an LCD that's only 5/6mm thick.

@OP: I haven't heard anything about Asus adopting such displays. However, because their array of choices is so numerous and confusing, the only way to find out is by researching all currently available 13-14" notebooks from Asus.

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable can come on and help.

    Regards,

    Z.

It keeps the LCD screen thinner, it increases the brightness of the lcd screen, and it uses less power meaning longer battery life. Dell XPS 1330 and Sony SZ series has those options. Asus hasn't really announced a LED backlit LCD yet, but yes did confirm that the U3 will not have the option.

ASUS never said the U3 will have the LED backlight option, it was majority of the community that told ourselves that ;) Until it's been released, we'll see, but I wouldn't be too excited about it.

So far, the SZ6 and m1330 are the only portables with LED backlighting, though the trend should increase in the upcoming months.
