So Ive been considering about take a flight to NYC since the ticket prices is pretty low.

Can anyone name me some dealers in NY? Or online stores that takes international orders? Mail me pls..

Geared2Play, now known as BTOTech is located in Brooklyn, there should be directions on their site: www.btotech.com

Don't be aware, btotech is exellent dealer. I've had some problems with preorder of G1 (creating paypal and using cc because ists issued in other country) , but they were really patiant, helped me to make it easier, faster for both and cheaper for me =)
Also they are licensed by asus http://usa.asus.com/wheretobuy.aspx

I am actually here at the moment for xmas break I will ask around but havent seen any Asus on the streets, not like down totenham court road in London, where you can actually go down and see the laptops, but BTOTech located in Brooklyn sounds like a good idea.

Anyway I was in the UK when I ordered my W3J, I got it from Proportable, I just did a direct transfer into his account from my Lloyds account (additional 20 pounds for money transfer), the only thing is, is that you will need a US address to deliver it too.

regardless of what others say, electronics are soo much cheaper in the US than the UK, especailly Asus.

    Good Luck

btotech requires an appointment to go see their store.

Send Eddie an email with your situation and he can deal with it.

You could also order it online and have it shipped to where you will be staying to avoid sales tax....

You may avoid US sales tax buying it locally, I know I didnt pay the CA tax buy buying it from Proportable, but beware if you get it sent via post to the UK you will get slapped an importing duty by customs, and if you are going to do that you might as well just find a deal in the UK, I know one place in London was going to give me a discount for cash and were even going to give me the VAT refund (because I was going to the US) this made it very tempting, but buying it in the US was still cheaper.

Although you might want to considr that, buying it in the UK and getting a VAT refund from the airport when you leave, (this was from an Asus store down Totenham Court RD), it was going to save me about 300 pounds.

    Hey guys
I know you all have good intentions for recomending local stores however i must ask you stop mentioning us for locals. We no longer will show anything locally and we no longer allow pickup. These people for the most part come look, ask about the sales tax and buy from cali. I dont want to deal withit. We will not longer accept walk ins. After someone dropped the w3j onto the concrete floor and said sorry then left....no more. buy online like danny said. its cheaper

Neither did i. The cluts said sorry and left. I gave it as a community gift later on as i did with many others. Had to replace the lid and bottom becuase they were scraped up but overall the laptop still worked fine. Pretty hard fall too and its not the first time someone dropped a laptop they were looking at. Out of 20 walkins who actually see a laptop maybee one will buy something. It is not the same for people who just happen to pass and are looking for the 600$ laptop. They actually will buy the cheapo ibms and used dells we stock for the locals. Locals do not really look for the expensive asus unless they are looking specifically for asus. if that is the case their only intent is to see and buy online to avoid tax. thus we no longer show anything. its a waste of my time, money and labor. we are moving in a few months to long island. it may be a different crowd there. a crowd that does not ask "whats your cheapest laptop" as soon as they walk through the door. there we may have local customers who are looking for something exotic. in brooklyn its a waste of rent on a prime property. i can do the same from my house (even better becuase there will be no rent and much much bigger).

That's one of the problems with sales tax in the online world... It really hurts local businesses dealing with large ticket items. I'm used to not usually not paying sales tax online just like everyone else, but I think the politicians should do something about making it equally enforced so that the local brick and morter store is on the same footing as the e-store on California... I'd always rather buy local if I can.

It will probably change eventually. I think technically you're supposed to pay taxes for all purchases in your taxes at the end of the year, even if they aren't collected do to the loop hole. But it's not enforced or investigated usually, unless tax evasion is obvious. Perhaps one day everything will be equal, but I'm not in favor of taxes everywhere I go either. You get taxed 25%+ on the money you make, and 5-10% on the money you spend and a percentage of the money you save which doesn't even accrue enough interest to stay at pace with inflation... I think it's rediculous in a country that doesn't even have national health care.

I'm sorry to hear you're Moving Eddie, but the neighborhood you're in isn't really all that wonderful, so I can understand. Good luck in L.I.

Dude, that suxs!! whatever happened to "you break it...you pay" thats soo wrong.

Yeah I have been in New York and most of the computer shops here in Manhattan are full of cheap models.

As you said with that competition around I can imagine people trying to compare your models to the cheap ones down the road, as you said you are better off locking your doors.
