I have weighed my options in laptops very carefully and have finally settled on the Asus Z70VA due to its renowned durability and aesthetics in its class. There is just one thing that concerns me about this laptop and that is the number of fans. As one reviewer noted, this laptop includes 6 fans. Having had experience with numerous fan failures in the past (3 vid card 2 cpu) you can see why this concerns me. Since I intend to keep this laptop for a very long time I would like to know, are the Z70VA fans built to last, and how easily can they be replaced. Thanks.

klingon...you've gotta read the WHOLE thread on that review, he meant 6 vents, but I believe there are only 2 fans on this unit maybe 3, but 2 I'm sure of. Those are the CPU fan and the GPU fan. That is all since those are the only ones that are detected by any management program.

I'm very surprised at how many fans you've had fail on you.

Could you possibly list the type of fans you used on your cpu?

You shouldn't worry about the fans as my friend has an m6bne from 2 years ago I believe or even longer and the fans are still going strong. :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Oh yeah good choice on the laptop, but you may also want to consider the Sager 5320 or something like that, that is similar to the Z70Va, but has a 256mb x700 and a cool LCD on the front with dedicated volume controls. Weighs a bit more though. It is a bit bigger "LOOKING" I don't know the dimensions.

I suggested this just incase you haven't heard or read about it, but I say yes, Z70Va baby. :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

 hehe I guess I didnt think that one through, 6 fans would be a bit much lol. Sorry I forgot to mention the fans Ive had to replace have all been for desktop systems, and now that Ive come to think of it, Ive never had a problem with any of the fans on my previous laptops, so I guess there was little reason to be worried after all. :)

THe sager you mentioned looks like a bad boy, Ill have to read up on it a bit more b4 I make my final decision, thnx Mike!

Keep in mind the Asus Z70Va has practically NO rival within the same class... anything that does rival it is either heavier (Sager), bigger(various 17" systems), slightly less powerful (most other 15.4" systems), or uglier (subjective, but true :D)

That Sager is a badboy...but not as portable and not as pretty :)

Acer Ferrari is pretty good. I'd still take the Asus though.

and one other BIG BIG BIG factor, is that the ASUS built-on models basicaly hve the best bang for the buck :D!

so yah, Z70va all the way, its relativly thin, 2nd lightest in the 15.4" gaming notebook, BEST North American 15.4" Notebook in all areas, Affordable and customizable and flexible hotswappable bay/drives.

There is one rival, LOL but its too expensive and only available in Europe, the Samsung X50, its the Lightest thinnest 15.4" gaming laptop in the WORLD, but cost 2x more and no customization or flexibility.

Trust me get the Z70va, i have already convinced 1 of my friends and one person on the forums :D so yah Get a ASUS Z70va its simply the best North American 15.4" gaming laptop you can get right now.

    :D :asus:

    Thanks,

No problem klingon...MysticGolem I guess you're right, but the Z70Va isn't as thin as many people believe it to be. It's an illusion because of the beautiful design of the edges, like a table or something, I love it.

Even if it is an illusion I'd rather have my baby like this than to have the base portrude out to the edges making it seem thicker.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hey guys.. I am interested in this ASUS as I have been looking closely at the HP dv4000 or the Fujitsu N3520. Can you give me a quick compare of what makes the ASUS 'all that ' compared to the HP? (...I think the Fuji is out because of no internal Bluetooth option and lesser vid card with the x300)

    Thanks in advance!

It's not so much that the Asus Z70Va is "all that"...rather, it has a bit of everything for a decent price. It's more expensive than the HP, but the ASUS is better built. The Fujitsu has a better screen, but the Asus is lighter and built just as good, if not better.

    WHDigital,
Recently I went to see thd dv4000 model at BestBuy and I've seen the Fujitsu N3410 which is very similar to the other model you've mention. In comparision to the Asus, only the Fujitsu came close in build and size/weight(because it came with 4 cell model 6.6lbs). Monitor I like Fujitsu the best of the 3. Video card x300 is mediocre but will play most games just in lower resolution. Then the DV4000, looks cheapest of the 3 notebooks, however, the quick play option is a plus and weights about the same as the other two laptop (6cell battery). Price is good if you get 6% off from HP.com for students. Speakers are getting worse comparing to the old models but still better than Fujitsu and same as Asus. Lastly, Asus is like a BMW of all 3...overall quality, video card, and options (dual batteries or HDs) and carbon fiber looks and feel. My choice for gaming and entertainment is Asus first, dv4000/or Fujitsu(non gamer) :asus:

Fujitsu's are built like a rock, and their screens are freakin' fantabulous (yes that is a word :D). If you are strictly a business/scholarly/non-gamer type of person then by all means go for the Fujitsu.

Asus gets a lot of hype because the build quality is good, screens are good, pretty darn light for their classes, and the design of the laptops seem to get a lot of attention, so in otherwords they're dayam sexay :D

    Cheers,
    Mike
