So in my overzealous nature I followed in the footsteps of some other forumers and added Arctic Silver to my GPU contacts. A thin layer of AS5 to each side of te phase transition pads for the northbridge and GPU. Unfortunately, when I opened up the whole thing again, i found that the pad was completely destroyed and lost it's ability to reform into its square pad shape. The AS5 irreversibly destroyed the structure of the pad. However, that is not to say, it will cause damage to your GPU/Northbridge. It just means once you do the mod with AS5 you're stuck with it.

Overall, its not worth the hassle. Doesn't improve the temps much if at all, and you make an irreversible change. Now i have to figure out to remount the heatsink without a pad...

aww geez, that's no good. you may want to consider using a thin copper insert to reflush the heatsink with the core. you can find out more about this sort of thing and more at www.builtonasus.com

Well, you learned your lesson....... yeah, it'll eat that pad away and it's sort of not the smartest thing to have done it in the first place because AS5 is going to work best on a solid to solid surface and the smoother the better......... On the other hand, you can't just remove that pad because if you do that'll create a large gap that AS5 can't or I should say... shouldn't try to gap.

haha yeah, kinda stuck now trying to figure out a solution. I've already removed all the gunk, it came apart when i opened it up anyway. Don't really wanna do any more mods that are irreversible, so i guess i have to figure out some kind of insert...

lol, i didn't see any adverse effects on adding AS5, so had to post this so people can learn from my mistake.
