Warranty -

Is Asus standard warranty 2 years but only 1 year on the battery? why is the stipulation only one year for the battery tho?

Im getting a G1S and was wondering if its worth my while extending it to 3 years? its an extra 121 euro

 

Batteries typically don't have a long life in comparison to a computer. Most batteries have a lifespan of 2-3 years so because of that, they can't warranty them more than 1 as the chance of degradation would be pretty much guaranteed within the warranty period. I also don't suggest purchasing extra warranty just for the battery as the batteries are often had for about $100, no more than $150. With Asus's 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental damage, i think it's pretty much covered.

The warranty is 1 year on battery because batteries don't usually last more than 1 year near their original specs. Not with the current technology + temperatures + discharge/charge rates.

Many notebook manufacturers will only give 6 months, so ASUS is better in this respect.

Whether it's worth extending to 3 years, is up to you. Some people won't even have the same notebook in 2 years, others will use it for 5 (if it works). If you believe you are going to use it longer than 2 years, consider purchasing the xtnd warranty -- with the way technology is designed nowadays there's a good chance something will go wrong in 2+ years time.

 

It doesn't make sense to buy extra warranty just for batt, indeed. But it's worth more than that, it's on all the hardware (I'm not even sure that the extra warranty applies to the battery?)

Moreover, if he's in Dublin and buying from continental EU (which I think, since he states prices in Euro), there will be no 1year accidental protection.

Yeah, if your getting the extra warranty just for the battery it won't be worth it, but if you want more coverage on the rest of the laptop then go for it. However, I don't think Asus extends the warranty of the battery and it remains as 1 year? Someone correct me if I'm wrong..

No I completely agree...i wouldnt get a warranty for the battery, itd be ridiculous...i just wanted to know if this was standard with ASUS. they say its just a 2 year warranty...they dont mention the accidental damage bit, thats what i was more concerned about. I imagine it isnt as the retailer is selling 1-year accidental theft & accidental cover as an "essential extra", so i must ring them back to ensue what the extent of their standard cover is!

I'd like to get a new gaming PC every 2 yrs, im not a peasant but it depends how generous my employers are over the next couple of years when it comes to pay rises so i think id avoid the one year extension and upgrade in two years anyway

 

.......As I noticed with the screen res on the G2S (WXGA instead of WUXGA), there seems to be differences between Europe and the US....

 

To clarify, as far as I know ASUS warranty in Europe is 2 years for the hardware, 1 year for the battery and adapter. No accidental warranty.

Besides these, you have to pay for any extras.

Battery is a consumable. No insurance in their right mind would put an extended warranty on it without enforcing strict guidelines.

Rechargable batteries typically decay by 20% of their maximum capacity per year depending on the type of battery and usage patterns. Some types of batteries survive deep discharges better than others.

Most laptops use Li-Ion batteries, which like being topped up more than they like being completely discharged.

Purchasing spare batteries in advance is useless since they have a shelf life and still decay despite not being used.

 

i think most people would be changing notebook again in 2 years. Than the 1 year would be wasted unless u are sure u wanna use this notebook for a long time.

you cant buy extra warranty for battery. battery warranty can NOT be extended
