Ok, over the past weeks i've bougth a Asus A6Jc-Q311H, and while not being top end I was expecting something very different (on all expects)

First the cpu was mostly always throttling with temps around 80ºC when under load, the hdd was also very hot (around 55º-60ºC) and had thousands of seek errors and even trigged NB health alarm...(all this in rooms with air conditioner and cooled to say the least)

As if it wasn't bad enough the X1600 had lower clocks, while not mentioning anywhere, (tho i've later found out its "common" among several brands, its false advertising), the performance was "crappy" to say the least and below other laptops with X1400 get.

The Asus costumer support (since the store where I got it was "playing hard") was a joke to say the least and it said the temps were normal up to 90ºC...I wonder how since it was unberable to use the touchpad for extended periods due to the hot.

Still...thinking it could be a bad laptop (even tho i've found other people all over the net complaining about the same problems) I returned it and got a new one....guess what: EXACT SAME PROBLEMS...

As if it wasn't enough (and this is more like dissapointment rather than a complain...the LCD screen was crap and couldn't catch any ligth whatsoever)

I guess this is the price to pay when releasing lots of products into the market without doing proper testing.

Hope this helps other people looking into get this laptop...

Although your laptop was running hot, like you said, this is a common problem with the A6 series. I feel what you are saying, my A6Jc HD stays in the 55-60C region and its proper annoying.

That being said, I dont know what you were expecting when you returned that laptop? If all the models run hot then you should have expected another hot model. I dont understand whats wrong with the screen though?

The original clocks can be reset by uninstalling the stock drivers and installing the latest ones from the ATI site, or you could safely overclock your GPU to the normal clocks.

Im sorry to hear you are having all this trouble but heat is an iherent problem in all laptops. In some it is more noticeable in others. Did you look into undervolting the CPU or buying a cooler? I have one and the HD stays at 45C.

I can understand you wanting a laptop from another manufacturer but Asus do make really good laptops. There are plenty of very happy (including myself) A6 series users. I hope you have better luck with your next laptop.

I agree with radditz, and I'm also another happy A6J user. Hot yes, but no real complaints. And the best thing to do when choosing your next laptop is to read thru the user reviews on this site - they should give you quite a good idea of what's hot (punned :p) and what's not about the model.

And don't give up on Asus, I'm sure they've got models you would love. A bit more pricey though.
