Has anyone ever tried watercooling their lappy???
Case Mod Project: Watercooled Laptop - Campus Party WINNER!!!!! - bit-tech.net Forums
looks pretty interesting, for the people that want to overclock the crap out of your GPU and CPU.......
a 480 fermi would be no problem with this bad set up.
-
Been tried by a couple of people before:
Cooling a 8887 ... After having upgraded m 8887 to the 8890, Sager sent back my old Motherboard (8887) with memomry and all the extra toys, so essentially all I ...
Fujitsu's water-cooled LifeBook N7010 with secondary 4-inch touchscreen now shipping -- Engadget -
man thats sick ,, thanks for the links bro.... I really want to do this.... after I get a i7 980,,, i wanna OC it to 4.0 and have this watercooling set up...
hahaha I want to have an ASUS that will just OWN a Sager or Clevo hahah.
i plan on making this my summer project.... nothing better to do i guess. Do a couple benchies,,, and go over to the clevo board and tell them to suck it and ASUS rules hahahah jk someones gotta do it, and represent the asus clan. -
Good luck!
I see absolute failure in your future.
Your fantasy is flawed from the begining, you cannot put in a desktop CPU in a mobile platform unless it's made for desktops.
Good luck! LOL
Your ASUS clan is laughing at you.
And this is coming from someone that likes ASUS laptops. -
haha holy there Negative Nancy.... why do you have to be "That guy"....
You sound like that guy who probably got bullied in highschool, who had no friends and probably to this day has no friends....... and now resorts to being a cyber bully on a notebook forum to make himself feel better.
buddy it was just an Idea and i wasnet putting a desktop CPU in a laptop, I should have said the mobile version... you need to get laid and just calm down a bit, before attacking someone for an idea. sorry my ideas are not as good as yours, i will try harder next time before I post. sorry im not a know it all. you need to settle down, go get laid, the come back and post, maybe you will be a little bit nicer...
instead of being a jerk, why didnt you just be nice and suggest something a little bit different.... -

you tell him, girlfriend!

The Link doesn't work...
edit: nvm my internet conenction just broke (always happens when i'm on utorrent).
Anyways, is there any chance AW might introduce watercooling to laptops anytime soon? (like 1-2 years from now) or is that just wishfull thinking... -
Lol@ Kwantz: You too, sound like the guy that got bullied. Seriously. Chill out.
IKAS V has tonnes of good ideas and contributions. Your idea is a little bit (okay, a lot) silly.
Instead of being an ignorant jerk, why don't you just be nice and suggest something a little bit more reasonable? -
hahah I can't stand negative people, who try to act so much better than everyone else. I had a few beers this afternoon and haha maybe it was not a realistic idea, but it I had stumbled across a few pages where people were using watercooling systems... I just thought it was pretty neat. And I planned on upgrading to an I7 980xm in the future. And to just add some extra cooling. I stumbled across the laptop watercooling page.
So I posted my post above, with my sarcastic sense of humour I guess to OC my ASUS and show the clevo guys... Totally just joking around. But I didnt relieze how sensitive some people were about there notebook brands lol. I was clearly just joking.
I guess this would definatly take away from it being mobile, but you could always just use shut off valves at the intake and discharge when you want to go "mobile"..... I would definatly practice this on my old HP lappy for a test run. Seems like a fun summer project.... once I perfected that, or got soemthing i was satisfied with. or if it was even worth it... I would attempt it on my G73. but as of right now its just an IDEA... and I do have a piece of crap HP sitting around collecting dust....
I have a Oxy/acetalyne torch... I might get a buddy of mine to fab me up a few waterblocks... to try out... -
-
I see absolute failure in your present.
Your reply is flawed from the beginning, you cannot expect to be welcomed with sarcasm and deconstructive criticism, unless you provide a helpful alternative or suggestion.
Your Clevo clan should be ashamed of you.
And this is coming from someone who actually has an Asus laptop.
Please refrain from speaking for me from now on.

To the OP: This is quite interesting, if not quite practical for mobility. But you'd probably have the quietest and most power-efficient desktop. I think the main limits of this would be size and then electrically what GPUs you could use with the motherboard, so if you had a big enough system and the right motherboard, a silent 480m would be... amazing. And probably stationary, lol
The Lifebook's extra screen looks really sweet, I wish I had that. -
I just pointed out your plan was not going to work from the start.
Just pointing out the only i7-980 is for desktops only, they don't make a mobile version that would fit in your G73.
Go ahead and spend a grand on CPU that will not work with your ASUS if that makes you happy there is no need to attack me on a personal level!
I've heard of drunk dialing but drunk posting!
C'mon man, I was "just kidding" too.
If what I said sounded a little harsh is maybe because it was true!
Good luck with your project bro -
I will not speak for you ever again.

Intel® Core™ i7-920XM Extreme,
is the processor im talking about.... I must have made a typo..... but im almost 100% sure that this processor will work... unless im completly wrong, I thought there was a few guys on here useing this processor on there g73's???
and I see a few benchmarks and videos of guys OC'ing these to 4.0ghz... obviously not reccomended..... thats why I was thinking watercooling would be a good route if trying to go this high of an OC....
maybe this was a bad idea? maybe a good one? but I will be fooling around with the idea with an older lappy.. just to see if it will even be worth the hassel on my G73. Im just curious to see how much of a difference it will make... or if I should just get a whole bunch of those copper pieces and glue them all over the place,,,, i just want really good cooling to make my system last a bit longer.. while OC'd -
yeah sorry.... I did make a typo in my OP.... i said i7 980 i meant the i7-920...
thats prolly where the big confusion started...
im assuming 980 is desktop? and the 920 is the high end for lappy processors?
sorry for the typo, thats started the battle lol -

No point to custom make all external components, they make good compact ones that would fit just fine under the notebook ot on the back of the lid.
To water cool a notebook just have to make a custom waterblock that is all. -
if you add watercooling, I don't think it's going to be much of a "laptop" anymore. But if you got time+money to blow, it'd be a great project. If you do start, make sure you post pics of your progress
-
you made a mountain out of a molehill bro, attacking me personaly but it does not matter becuase it is what it is.
Now go stand in the corner for half an hour -
-
Yeah it wouldnt be much of a mobile laptop anymore, but if u were to use shut off valves and quick connects... it could be somewhat portable still just make sure you downclock it before u take the cooling off.
-
Sorry I forgot to add.. WHats the highest people are overclocking the 920xm? i have heard of 4 ghz? obviously you would need some serious cooling for that... would the g73 be able to do it??? can it go higher than 4.0ghz??? whats the highest you have heard of those things going??
-
Water cooling for desktop replacements would be so cool. I can imagine a tube connected with the charger cord that has water in it, lol.
-
@EVERYONE ^
LMFAO!!!
I've seen a few notebooks get "watercooled" over the years. We also call it "Float Testing."
(I've never seen one pass the Float Test) -
If you like to do all this modding, why don't you do it with a desktop?
-
Agreed that it would be much better to do mods on a desktop. With a water-cooling mod, a laptop must be placed in a fixed location which if that's the case, a desktop would be a more feasible solution. If you also need the mobility, a cheap budget laptop or netbook would be a nice accompaniment with a powerful desktop. Chances are you'll even end up spending less than a full-fledged and water-cooled laptop.
In addition, it should be noted that doing such mods on a laptop will void all manufacture warranties while warranties on a desktop are usually more forgiving and parts are easily replaced. -
Its a nice idea but is totally not practical on a notebook platform. It would be more practical if you need the portability to consider water cooling one those shuttle pcs.
-
lol IKAS pwns you
-
because im a notebook kind of guy.... plus I like versatility...
It would take me 2 seconds to downclock a lappy... and with valves on the intake and discharge,,, and a quick connects... then shes portable and downclocked for portability....... or vice versa.... Connect it,, open valves,,, and overclock it to be powerful when need be..... you know what im saying???
Its all about options and versatilty... if thats not your bag or your style,, then ignore this post... if interested then try it... I personally think its possible and totally do-able...
Im a pipefitter by trade,,, installing valves, and pumps all day for aliving,, this set up would be childs play... and actually super simple.
SO why not give it a whirl? Its easy,,,, litterly I oculd turn my lappy into an actual overclocked desktop,,,, and a portable machine at the same time...
Once i get all the parts in, and search around for good parts,, illl keep everyone posted,,, you will get the picture that im trying to imagine right now,, and it will be sick boys... -
still playin with the idea,,, gunna practice with the old lappy i have kickin around first... get it wet first
-
Really interested to see what you come up with
-
Interesting idea let's see if you can realise it.
-
I would never want to discourage a guy willing to hack up his laptop and take pics for my enjoyment. Please take lots of good pics!!
