I don't know, that is our starting date
-
do u know if there were any upgrades made to the W3J without us knowing, for example, and 2.0ghz processor or a 7200rpm harddrive. i know this is just wishful thinking.
-
I think it would be safe to assume that Justin and others will be getting their shipments at that time too but I don't know.
*correction* Yeah, Justin is getting them then too. Just got an email. -

The only difference I have heard of is the hinge, no more bamboo design.
-
is this change going to be with the w3j's? if so then what is it going to look like?
-

Yes, W3J, but I don't have a picture now.
-
Wha?? No bamboo design?!
Say it ain't so?
edit: WAIT! IT MAY HAVE THE V6/W2 HINGE DESIGN MAYBE?!?! -
-
What - Hallelujah!
Now I got to find out how they changed the hinge.
So the one headed to the US is different than the UK one? Hmmm... -
I need pictures to actually believe they changed the chassis design.
On a side note WhoooooHoooooo..........its almost here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

YOu should trust me
-
Numerous people outside of the US have gotten their W3Js and all have confirmed the bamboo/battery design. I highly doubt that Asus Taiwan would spend more resources for R&D specifically for Americans.
-

If they do it, they do it for a special reason, not because they show special love to Americans, I am sure we will benifit from this change, let wait and see
.
-
*prays for a left side vent*
wishful thinking =D -
I want pictures and or confirmation that someone has actually seen the "new" design with there own naked eyes and can describe the changes.

Yeah, Danny are you sure of this??? Doesn't seem to make much sense, since the W3J's are already in peoples houses in other parts of the world with the same W3V style bamboo chasis. It would explain the insane NA delays though. I really can't wait to see what's up...I really like the current design, but maybe they've found a way to make it even better??? I pray It's not worse though, after all this waiting!!!
Please post some pics as soon as you can for us -
Bamboo design eh? So the laptop will look like a 35 foot pole?
-
If it looks like the W2v/W2j, or the V series, I'm going go crazy (crazy happy).
If it looks like the A6j or A7j (or similar), I'm going to be ****ing pissed. -
Indeed Undertow, I second that. What's all this Kerfuffle about no bamboo battery? Danny, can you give us more info as to why you believe that the NA model will differ in design from the pics we've seen from Europe and Asia???
EDIT: Actually, reading the other threads in this forum, I can see that there is 100% chance od recieving the same laptop we've seen in "thekingdavisds" review and others around the globe. Rest assured That the beauty of the w3 is intact. -

I was wrong on this
I said so just because I got a latest specs sheet, I read it fast, It says:" Concealed bamboo battery hinge design for modern sophistication", I thought it was " Cancelled bamboo battery hinge design for...."
I told you guys on Monday the W3J was already in the Taiwan airport, treat that as a make up for this mistake -
Ha! I knew it! Not that it would have made a lick of difference anyway. I've been waiting for this computer for 5 months now.
-
You know what - I'm glad. If anything, it was going to be a worse setup if changed I'd bet.
No problemo - I'm PUMPED that it's coming "early". I kinda had a feeling a few weeks ago... -
Ahahaha
All I can say, a couple thousand people sighed a breathe of relief -
yeah i sure did
-
right side vent, SCORE.
-
what about the HD is it 5400 or 4200?
-
Na spec is 5200 and has not changed.

I'd still really like to know the REAL reason why the W3J has taken so much longer to make it to North America than it has to several other parts of the world. The design change could have been an explanation, even though It was VERY unlikely...now that that's been cleared up, I'm really curious If we'll ever get an official explanation from Asus as to why we've had to wait so long. If no one else got them either, that would be one thing, but for other's to have had them for such a long time??? Oh well, at least they're that much closer to being here...or so we think
-
Asus does a heck of a lot more stuff than just laptops. That's probably one reason we got some delays on this lappy.
-
Part of the delay must have had to do with the different components that the N.A. model is coming with (knock on wood) like the faster CPU and HDD. It sounds like the decision to upgrade those components came fairly late in the game, and together with what was probably an overly optimistic original release date and the normal red tape of a new product launch, that probably explains most of the delay. Plus the memory stick change came very very late, and ASUS was/is attempting to launch a number of other models simultaneously or close together (W2, A8, etc.). So despite the agony for us eager customers, the whole affair wasn't quite as ridiculous as it seemed in our minds.
That being said, if the W3J arrives with a 4200rpm HDD or 533MHz DRAM, I'm going to go medieval on ASUS's a**. And I think I'll have Justin, Danny, and lots of y'all right there with me holding torches and pitchforks.
