Wow. It seems that this laptop is getting more expensive as it gets closer to its release/shipping date.
Its getting further away from my grasp.
-

Because it is T2400 now instead of T2300.
-
Wish the european version was like that. All we get is a T2300 and Go 7300.
-
Eagerly waiting for the price of the barebones A8JM
-
The pricing is VERY decent considering what you get...
This looks like it's going to be a popular machine indeed. -
excellent, now I just have to decide whether or not to upgrade to 2g 667ram, Danny would this be 2x 1g or 4x512
-
Camera, wow.
I'll probrably stop by to take a look at it sometime

Great!, I like the looks i like the features!! DVI!!
Awsome laptop. Yah it went up in price like 100$ or something =\, ohwell.
Lets hope ASUS is pushing for earlier release dates on other models?
Thanks,

have they said that the barebones would come with dedicated graphics as well? it seems like whenever there is a barebones option based on an ensemble, they either drop the gpu all together or put in a weaker gpu....e.g. w3v and z63a.
-
With the lack of details on the American side, I have an unfortunate feeling the A8jm may be ENSEMBLE and Canada only...
But time will tell... -
Here's something to check out:
A8Jm on USA Asus site -
Nono, I meant from the dealers
I saw that, and its a good sign. -
Any idea if this will be coming to the US? If so, when?
This looks like a great laptop at a good price. Hopefully if it does come to the US there will be some reseller that will offer customization of it.
Now to decide the A8Jm, the W3J, or hold off and see what else will be released in the near future. -
well, one thing to consider is that danny from canadasys is expanding to the u.s. market. if we don't get it here, it's possible that we may be able to purchase from him in the future....
-
But I want it now....
-
danny is it coming with 2x512 or 1x1024 ? and does it have bluetooth?
-
MilestonePC.com Company Representative
I don't want to confirm it until I receive it, but I feel it is 1x1024
-
Well I hope not. I mean the go7600 is the main reason for making the A8JM famous.
If they drop the go7600 for soemthing like a go7300/7400, then depending on the price reduction for the barebones I might get it. -
do we have to preorder again, or will the earlier preorders be shifted onto the new-specs preorder list?
and ill bring up the optional-bluetooth question again while im at it. -
I notice that there is no weight listed. Any idea how much this puppy weighs (with battery & optical drive)? Also, any idea about battery life?
-
here is an image, but i only assume the optical device and battery are in it
img link, its big (and by big, i mean the image is big, not the notebook
)

You will be auto switched to the new list, and there is NO blue-tooth included, this is not even an option for NA. -
are those pics actually the A8Jm? Im seeing two different designs there...
-
well what are the gpu score differences between this and a x1600?
-
yea they are. Check out this link to view the rest of the pictures, though this link may have already been posted elsewhere.
-
I dont know if its been posted. Maybe Justin can chime in here Will this model be available in a built on at all?
-
here is some insight from danny, who took a trip to Asus (or so i believe he did). It's the second portion of the post labelled A8Jm to white box?
-
wow, good thread. I'm heavily looking into buying this notebook, I think it's the perfect size/performance/price for me. Does anyone have an idea of the build quality or what to expect in terms of the screen? I had heard earlier that it can come equiped with an x1600 in an A model, is that not happening anymore? How much extra would another gig of ram be? I'm pretty sure it says 110 but the select # box goes up to 3 which makes me think you can get up to 4gigs of ram? Is anyone aware of the battery options available for this notebook and the costs? Also, what's the difference between ensemble and white box? Thanks =)
-
Ensemle models come prebuilt from ASUS with all the goodies. The whitebox or built on models are usually not as nice looking (opinion here), come with lower video cards and you get to configure the specs (cpu, ram, hdd, wireless etc)
The A8JA has not been announced to be launched in NA. The X1600 and Go7600 are pretty much evenly matched, with the go7600 taking it in opengl games/apps and the x1600 taking it in directx games/apps. -
well I have to say, I'm a bit of an ATI fanboy due to the fact than I'm a canadian! Oh well, this thing is still quite a steal. I have to say I'm a bit bummed though, I don't have any openGL games and aparently the go7600 isn't as good with its heat production and power needs. I know a guy who buys these things wholesale though, he may or may not be able to get me the A version. If not I'll have to be minorly dissapointed and go with the slightly inferior american brand. j/k *raises white flag*
-
Does anyone know when/if the A8Jm is coming to Europe?
-
CalibratedComa Notebook Evangelist
One of the retailers listed under where to buy on Asus's site in Canada claims to have the A8JM in stock...It's probably a mistake If Danny doesn't have them yet...just thought I'd mention that to those who are interested...I'm too tired and lazy to go back through the list for the exact retailer though.
-
According to the side photo on the website ( http://www.milestonepc.com/canada/product_info.php?cPath=187_87_82&products_id=728) the DVI-D port is "optional". Just want to clarify that. Is it optional or is it included?
-
So far it looks like its been standard. THe geforce 7600 and the DVI port are the two main attractions of this laptop over the W3J.
-
Isn't the X1600 on the W3J supposed to be a tad bit better than the Go7600?
Also, how crucial is the DVI port? I find thd W3J nicer looking by a long stretch and looks better built. For this reason I am leaning towards getting a W3J even though it is >$300 more.
Does the A8Jm have the removable optical drive so you can put in a HD or extra battery instead? -
^^ I think most new ASUS models have removable optical drives where you can put in an extra HD/Battery. Probabily yes, not guaranteed though, but lookin as its the W3J, it should be feature packed, so i'd say yes. Check ASUSTek website though.
-
Actualy The built on models do not have the removable cd rom anymore.
-
I am asking whether the A8Jm has the removable optical drive. I know that the W3J has it. Both are ensemble models
-
I noticed that on the Milestone page, you could also upgrade processors, ram, hard drives, etc.,
Will the guys at Milestone do it or will it be sent separately from the lappies? Also, will getting these new parts invalidate the Asus global warranty? -
they mention that it will void your international asus warranty, but they will supply their own warranty in place of it. i think it will only cover north america, though.
-
The A8jm does not have a modular swappable OD tray like the W3j
-
Really? NOOOOOOOOO! I really wanted that feature. Someone had said that most new Asus laptops have that now.
-
They did before, but it seems only some do, while others don't. The previous Sonoma ASUS laptops had them, the W3, Z63a, Z70v, Z71v, etc. but now there is....the W3j only so far
-
I dont think it should. What would you swap the OD with?
-
second battery would be the most common use. others who are weight attentive, would swap it out with an empty tray..but i assume those who have a problem with weight, wouldn't go for that model in the first place.
-
Extra battery life(6 cell), extra HD(can fit a HD in there), a dummy to save 0.5lbs~
-
in general i suppose. and i also suppose IF it was modular they'd develop a modular battery for it. Fair enough! $$$ for you.
We start delivering A8Jm next week
