Hi everyone! New Asus F8 series user here...F8SV to be exact. I installed Windows XP, and its basically running like a champ, except for a couple of weird things...
1. Under Device Manager, there are a few devices under "Other Devices" with yellow question marks. One of them says "Unknown device", but if I look at its properties, it says its located in "Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2815". Does anyone know what this is??
2. VERY strange thing that happens with the Network Card (LAN). Basically, after restart, 2 "new" Local Area Networks pop up for Comodo Firewall. I then lose LAN wether I give those 2 "new" LANs access or not. If I look at my Network Zones in Comodo, and delete those 2 new LANs, then disable my normal LAN and re-enable it, I get my internet back. If I just use Windows Firewall, I just do the disable/re-enable thing, and most of the time it works...if not I have to restart. I really have no idea what this is about. Is it a bad Network Card? Bad drivers? Any help would be great!
Thanks.
P.S. I posted this in the "Asus F8 Series Owners' Lounge" but got no replies, so I thought I'd start a new topic in hopes of more views. Hope this is OK.

If it says Intel, it probably has something to do with the chipset drivers. You download the latest from Intel themselves.

OK I'll try to look for updated Intel Chipset drivers. And as for the LAN problem, I "think" I've solved it. I think something messed up when I was applying the SP2 TCP-IP Fix. Reinstalled it and it "seems" to be fine now after 2 restarts. *crosses fingers*
EDIT
I downloaded the latest intel chipset drivers and installed it, but the Unknow Device is still there in Device Manager.
EDIT #2
I spoke too soon...the LAN issue is still a no-go. Back to square 1 now. -
For your intel issue, it may actually be the Turbo memory that you can use in Vista that isn't compatible with windows XP...so it might just be your best bet to disable it in the device manager, if that's what it turns out to be.
Where'd you end up getting your drivers for XP? I only found'em on some korean site.. -
Lot'a XP info in the Asus Info Booth:

Including a link to a downgrade guide for the F8S models, with links to the drivers I think (I didn;t load the thread).
