Well yet another problem with my baby that I cannot figure out.

I've seen this before and usually it's just a videocard issue, but I don't see any issues and cannot mess with the hardware itself because I'm not too familiar with laptops hardware layout and it would probably void my warranty.

When I started up my laptop this morning I only had it up for maybe a couple of minutes to check to see if there was a wireless connection in a certain area of my campus. When I shutdown all I saw were artifacts all over the screen varrying in color in perfect rectangles as if my videocard was overheating or something. Not possible because I have powerplay in low power mode for the videocard.

I powered down by holding the power button for 4 seconds.

After that I didn't turn it on for a while and I also didn't think much about it thinking it was just a little hardware fart.

Just now when I booted up off battery power in one of my school's libraries I saw a splash of faint green all over the screen upon bootup during the windows bootup screen.

I am not happy with my unit thus far. I think I'm going to ask my reseller to give me another one. The creaking, my keyboard is now rattling, left side speakers are weaker than the right, my soundcard won't turn off the speakers when I plug in headphones and my fan sounds like something is lodged in it or something (the GPU fan).

Another thing not related to hardware problems, but to whoever serviced my laptop the last time it was in the shop scratched up the bottom of my laptop and a scratch on the body near the top right corner.

I believe it's time to demand some things from reseller since I gave them two laptop sales, three including mine and still 2 more coming. Maybe I should stop sending my friends over to them, but I am convinced it's not a reseller issue.

Oh yeah, any suggestions on the weird artifacting on my desktop???

I'm not worried because I still have my warranty as my system isn't much older than 4 months.

    Cheers,
    Mike
    :(

Edit:: Told you guys I have the worst luck with purchasing ANYTHING. Don't let this deter anyone new to the forums from buying an Asus. My problems are not vendor specific, but rather general problems that can happen with ANY laptop.

Well my left speakers are also weaker than my right, so maybe that's just how they are.

    Really? Dayam. That stinks.

    :(

Well hopefully I can get everything sorted out and they can give me a new system or at least change the whole body casing with new parts and a new keyboard and a new battery.

    :D

A wise man once said those who mess with their notebooks, undervolt, undreclock the vga card will have their notebook broken every 1 month. I feel sorry for your reseller. :(

    Oooooooh Eddie :D

I'm only using Powerplay's default functions to underclock the vga card, so that's normal and within limits.

The undervolting of the CPU is another matter, and I haven't undervolted much at all.

You are right though haha, maybe I shouldn't undervolt, but the benefits are just spectacular.

Mike you can forget about the creaking becuase honestly you are blowing it out of proportion. You make it sound a million times worse then it really is. The speakers not turning off is a known issue can only be fixed with rma. Not sure what your fan sounds like but they are not silent. The higher sound from the right then the left is also known and "normal". Is this your first laptop you have ever owned?

Yeup it's my first and seriously Eddie the creaking is not blown out of proportion. It's not everyday normal laptop creaking, which is acceptable and known. It's the base part not fitting right with the palm rest.

The left side sits flush with the base while the right side sits above it, so the two parts there rub and create the squeaking.

Really I know what you mean about creaking, it is normal on laptops, but mine is not the normal creaking on all laptops. I've also compared my system to two other Z70Vas at my school's library and they were solid.

The two owners asked me why mine squeaked.

The fans I know are loud, that's fine, mine recently started sounding like there was sand in the GPU fan. The fan noise doesn't bother me, the abnormal sand grinding noise is bothering me.

I am just saying the m6n chassis which is the same on the z70 does creak. Its barely noticeable at best. I dont know what you have there but there should be nothing physically different on yours then any other unless it was machined in the shop where you bought it or has been taken appart before. Sorry you are having all this trouble but i think you will find a flaw with any laptop you have and make a big deal of it. The search for a perfect laptop goes on forever.

Blah, no no no Eddie, I know creaking exists and yes I accept that, but I just described for you that my palm rest and base do not fit together properly.

Really. As I said above I compared it to two systems.

    Shampoo,

How much under base did you undervolt the vid card by using the low settings, and can you get it to come on long enough to change the settings?

Kansa, she's running alright, just those two bootup scares with all the artifacts. I just wanted second opinions on what caused this as I am not as familiar with laptops as I am with desktops.

I didn't undervolt my videocard, I'm just using the Powerplay low mode, which is just fine.

Shampoo, my desktop did something similar from time to time, and it ran a 9600pro on an Abit i865 mobo that liked to undervolt the AGP slot by a little. If I reset or got into windows, it all went back to normal. I switched to an Asrock AMD system and haven't had the problem since. Your problem sounded somewhat similar, so I was just curious. Have you ever undervolted the vid card on your notebook, and if so is it possible a setting could be left switched on/off? (I know I would be tempted to undervolt if I had your notebook, since the X700 is known to undervolt pretty well.)

Nope you can't undervolt videocards. You mean underclock? I'm not changing any voltage settings I'm just using Ati's built in Powerplay, which lets you change its clockspeed according to your task to save battery life in battery mode.

Don't get undervolting mixed up with underclocking as they are two different things. I think you mean underclocking.
