The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Goren!

He'll be a moderator on the ASUS forum, as well as the MSI and What to Buy? forum as well.

This is good news for alot of people.....he won't be eligible to be ASUS MVP ;) ;)

Can somebody explain me what moderator has to do here?? Don't get me wrong but since I'm here I haven't seen any moderator activity. Or just it's a title only??

They lock/move topics and basically moderate this forum. They're like the people who look after everything, you might not see them do any work, but I'm sure they do a lot of work behind the scenes :D

Thanks for the comments guys i really appreciate it :)

as for mods.. there's a number of spammers that post here.. you know those free so and so deals, visit this site stuff.. that need to be removed. Plus the Asus section is a bit more interesting.. you got mods and resellers working together to create contests, previews, etc to make the section more enjoyable for our members and viewers :)

Its not often you'll find monthly contests with members, or a mod taking lots of photos of yet to be released Asus notebooks.

How does that work...does the site compensate moderators for their time and efforts...or is it strickly volunteered time and work? I'm just curious how it all works. Congrats Goren, make us proud!!! :)

    All volunteer :)

Though, we do, sometimes, get first dibs on reviews :D

But besides that, we're just like regular users, sometimes more intimidating for no reason. Must be the green name ;)

You don't have to explain me what moderators do cause I'm moderating biggest forum in Poland so I know my job. I was asking about what they have to do here cause I haven't seen any closed topics (in fact the topics are not closed even if it's 100 time about the same problem) or banned spamers or whatever. The only evidence of their work are sticky topics. I don't want to offend anybody, it's just how it looks for me.

Well, this certain forum is pretty well damned behaved, so its easy for the mods :D

The only thing is that, all the mods are in different time zones(B.C. Canada, Ontario, Canada, and France), so now, adding a Hawaiian to the mix, we're all covered :D

The only other mod work I actually do besides the sticky is moving threads to the right forum.

Gotta thank the people here for behaving so well ;)

Well behaving?! Ok, I will dignify this one minute silence....59,60. OK. I meant look even at the W3 topics, 2 or 3 about first impressions?!?! WTF?? Can't it all be in one?! Or new users. I can be preety sure that no one of those noobs don't even start to search for an answer, they just make another topic, write NooB QuestioN and they think that's justify their laziness. Really, I don't want to make a revolution here, but you should think about some punishment system, it's unaccepteable what some users are doing here. And I'm not talking only about Asus subforum.

This is probably the 4th or 5th forum I've became a mod for. Different forums have different organization methods.

In this case.. from what I've seen, a number of questionable threads (i.e spammers) are set on invisible, so most of the other members will never see it. Secondly as with most notebook/laptop forums.. alot of people are going to make new threads on xyz machine all the time.. so I think there should be some freedom in what they post.

Its a difficult matter, yes in an ideal world newbies would search and read the FAQ's, but unfortunately they dont....thus there are a number of repeat questions...Im counting the seconds till someone re-asks "can I upgrade my gpu" !!!
This is mildly annoying but at the end of the day that is what the forum is for...ie helping people out.
As a mod I try to keep a fair balance between culling and repremanding posters and allowing people freedom of speach....lets face it forums are one place this actually exists.

So I welcome the new mod, more hands the better....but lets not get so negative about this place, yes its abit of a mess, but then all the best places always are!

Ok, I totally agree that forum should help people out. But do they have to be so lazzy and don't even try to find out the answers at first? The problem is that they don't afraid anything cause there is no punishment system. The real strenght of this forum is it's size and power-users from all over the world and you should use it as a advantage. From my experience I can tell that EVERY noob can be taught to use search options and faq's. I'm not telling thats easy but not impossible, it takes some time but believe me : benefits are huge. Of course I'm not telling to give ban to every noob that will write another stupid question but you know it's like with childs and breeding without stress, they said that's the best way and now they're saying they were wrong. The same situation is here I think. But I guess it's not my problem.
And for the mod : good luck....you gonna need it ;)

Congratulations Goren! :) As for this forum, I've been a member over at Notebookforums longer than I have been here, and I notice that this one is more "behaved" than NBF. We get a lot more repeat posts, newbies never using the search, and trolling at NBF. Maybe because NBF has a larger membership? The rep points over there have become more of a joke as well in my opinion, due to the "rep boosting/hitlist" threads in Off Topic. But I understand that it's all just for the fun of it. I like how NBR doesn't have these types of threads, cause the rep system is more honorable here. Just my opinions. So to all the moderators here at NBR... keep up the great work! :)

Mastha, no offense, but in the scheme of things you yourself are relatively new here...There have been MANY, MANY closed threads...and quite a few "insane" posters banned. The last few months have been pretty good...but some threads have gotten pretty heated here in the past...and eventually they all end up being closed.
The mods to a great job here...yes there are a lot of repeat questions...but for the most part, people are willing to give them answers quickly so it all works out with no harm done.

I don't know why, but when I read Masthas posts, the voice I hear in my head sounds exactly like Lenny from the apprentice. :)

I don't know about this buffing thing...someone might actually push the furry animal through the screen - we DON'T want that!

(Falls back on the floor laughing about the whole thing!)
